Burnley vs cardiff

Burnley were incredible in their Championship opener as they demolished Luton Town 4-1. Scott Parker's men have already laid down a marker in the race for promotion and they return to Turf Moor this weekend as they take on Cardiff City.

The Bluebirds were beaten 2-0 at home to Sunderland last weekend and my Burnley vs Cardiff prediction has them to struggle once again. Below you will find my tips for this second-tier clash, as well as match odds and team news.

Burnley vs Cardiff Betting Tips

  • Burnley to win to nil @ 7/5
  • Over 2.5 Burnley goals @ 7/4

Burnley are 4/9 to win this match, giving them an implied probability of 69.2%. Cardiff are valued at 6/1, which gives them a 14.3% chance of victory. The draw can be backed at 100/30 (23.1%).

Both teams to score is marketed at 5/6 and over 2.5 goals is on offer at 4/6.

Wilson Odobert was on the scoresheet last week for the Clarets and he is 2/1 to score anytime in this one.

Team News

Sander Berge was missing from Burnley's squad last week amidst links to Manchester United, but Parker has emphasised it was a physical issue that saw him omitted. Luca Koleosho was taken off injured at Kenilworth Road, but the injury doesn't appear to be as bad as first feared, so he could feature against Cardiff on Saturday.

Defender Dara O'Shea, who scored last week as well as being named Player of the Match, is a doubt to feature this weekend as reports suggest he is closing in on a return to the Premier League with Brentford.

For Cardiff, they will be missing midfielder David Turnbull after the player suffered an injury in the warm-up of their Carabao Cup tie with Bristol Rovers in midweek. He is set for a month on the sidelines as a result. Aaron Ramsey continues to recover from his ACL injury, while Callum Robinson and Anwar El Ghazi are doubts to feature.

Burnley to win to nil @ 7/5

I was very impressed with Burnley in their 4-1 win over Luton. It may have only been the first game, but it looks like they are going to be tough to stop from achieving an instant return to the Premier League.

They were so sharp in attack and they looked like a side a few months deep into the season and not one that were playing its first match under a new manager. Considering they did that well on the road against a side that came down from the top-flight with them, I think they will find playing at home this weekend even better.

Parker will want his first home league game to go to plan and I expect this to be another impressive victory for the Clarets. Cardiff were disappointing in their defeat to Sunderland and they are only going to find things more difficult coming up against a much tougher opponent.

I am backing Burnley to win to nil here and collect their first clean sheet of the season.

Burnley to win to nil at 7/5 Over 2.5 Burnley goals @ 7/4

With that in mind, I think it only sensible to back Burnley to have some more joy in front of goal this weekend. They fired four past the Hatters on the road, and I think they can be as prolific on home soil against a team that conceded 70 goals in 2023/24.

The Bluebirds have already leaked two goals after one game, and they are coming up against a side that is going to be full of confidence after their opening-round win in Bedfordshire.

There were four different scorers last weekend, highlighting that Parker has plenty of firepower at his disposal, and that's discounting one of last year's top scorers in Lyle Foster, who did, however, tee up one of the goals on Monday night.

As such, I am backing the Clarets to add at least three more goals to their tally this weekend at Turf Moor, as a flying start could be pivotal for their pre-season objectives come May.
