My first two BTTS Boosts of the season have both seen two of the four selections come in. It's not the worst start to the campaign, but there is room for improvement. With the Premier League returning this week I have more games to choose from, and two of my selections have been hand-picked from the top flight.

Check out my BTTS Tips below, with this week's four-fold being boosted to 9/1 by the traders.

BTTS Tips - Saturday, August 16

  • BTTS Yes in Aston Villa vs Newcastle United @ 8/15
  • BTTS Yes in Barnsley vs Bolton Wanderers @ 8/15
  • BTTS No in Blackburn Rovers vs Birmingham City @ 10/11
  • BTTS No in Wolves vs Manchester City @ 11/10

BTTS Yes in Aston Villa vs Newcastle United @ 8/15

An interesting fixture awaits at Villa Park on the opening weekend of the Premier League as Aston Villa host Newcastle United - two teams who will be vying for the Uefa Champions League places, just like they did last term.

The Magpies won that race but in the final run-in, they suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat here in April. It may be the first game but both sides are blessed with quality players and I think we can be treated to an entertaining contest in the West Midlands.

Both teams to score was a successful bet in 74% (14/19) of Villa's home league games in 2024/25, while this market has struck in three of their past four meetings with Newcastle.

BTTS Yes in Barnsley vs Bolton Wanderers @ 8/15

Barnsley have had an excellent start to their League 1 campaign, with Conor Hourihane's side winning their opening two fixtures. The Tykes sit second in the standings heading into their home clash with Bolton Wanderers at Oakwell on Saturday.

The Trotters bounced back from their opening weekend defeat at Stockport County with a victory over Plymouth Argyle last time out. Boss Steven Schumacher will look to build on that against Barnsley, with the visitors boosted by the addition of former Pilgrims loanee Ibrahim Cissoko from Toulouse.

At least one team has failed to score in Bolton's two games so far, but it has been the opposite for Barnsley, with BTTS landing in both of their games to date. There is plenty of quality in both squads and I think the attackers can ensure that there are goals at both ends - which was the case in both league meetings last term.

BTTS No in Blackburn Rovers vs Birmingham City @ 10/11

In the Championship, Blackburn Rovers will be looking for an upturn in their fortunes after losing their opening league game at West Bromwich Albion before then crashing out of the Carabao Cup at home to League 1 side Bradford City.

Valerien Ismael's side face a tough test against newly-promoted Birmingham City, who have impressed in their first two games against Ipswich Town and Sheffield United (league and Carabao Cup respectively).

The Blues dominated the Blades at St. Andrew's on Wednesday, creating an xG of over three goals, and goalscorer Kyogo Furuhashi could have bagged a first-half hat-trick. Chris Davies' side are relentless with and without the ball and I think they can cause Blackburn all sorts of problems.

Against Ipswich, they conceded just one shot on target which came from the equalising penalty, while Sheffield United had just one touch in their box in midweek. I don't think Rovers will lay a glove on them offensively.

BTTS No in Wolves vs Manchester City @ 11/10

Saturday's evening offering from the Premier League comes from Molineux as Wolverhampton Wanderers host Manchester City. The Old Gold will be hoping for progress this season as the past couple of seasons have seen them looking over their shoulder at the threat of relegation.

Man City had a very poor 2025/26 by their standards as they went an entire campaign without silverware, only the second time this has happened since Pep Guardiola took charge. The Spaniard has been busy in the transfer window to help rebuild his squad to compete for the title this time around.

The Citizens have a good record on the opening day in recent years, having won each of their past three. On top of this, they haven't conceded a goal in those games, whilst they have recorded clean sheets in four of their previous eight encounters with Wolves.
