Brighton & hove albion vs arsenal premier league saturday 4 january 2025

Brighton & Hove Albion are winless in their last seven games so the sight of Arsenal, who have won three consecutive games in the Premier League, will be an unwelcome one at the Amex Stadium on Saturday evening (17:30, Sky Sports Main Event).

Below is my Brighton & Hove Albion vs Arsenal prediction, complete with all the latest team news and match odds.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Arsenal Betting Tips

  • Match Result & Total Goals Over/Under 3.5 - Arsenal & Under 3.5 Goals @ 8/5
  • Price Boosts - Joao Pedro (BHA) 1+ Shots on Target, Gabriel Jesus (ARS) 1+ Shots on Target, Gabriel Martinelli (ARS) 1+ Shots on Target @ 4/1 6/1

Team News

Brighton & Hove Albion are still missing injured quintet Ferdi Kadioglu, James Milner, Mats Wieffer, Danny Welbeck and Evan Ferguson for this weekend's game, while Jack Hinshelwood remains a doubt and Diego Gomez is unlikely to make his debut so soon after arriving from Inter Miami this window.

Football Odds

Arsenal are still waiting for the return to fitness of defenders Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu, so the suspension Jurrien Timber incurred during the Gunners' New Year's Day victory at Brentford (1-3) for a fifth yellow card of the campaign was an unwelcome one; Thomas Partey is likely to cover for the Dutchman at right-back.

Forwards Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling are out injured for Mikel Arteta's side and their absences saw 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri handed his first Premier League start at the Gtech Community Stadium; whether he keeps his spot remains to be seen, however, given the quick turnaround in fixtures. Kai Havertz missed out in west London through illness and could replace Nwaneri in the starting XI on Saturday with Declan Rice expected to be restored in midfield.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Arsenal Odds

Brighton haven't tasted success since beating AFC Bournemouth 2-1 at Vitality Stadium on November 23; the Seagulls are 7/2 to break out of their winless spell on Saturday, giving Fabian Hurzeler's side an implied probability of 22.2%, while Arsenal are 4/5, or a 55.6% chance, to chalk up a fourth straight Premier League victory.

The teams played out a 1-1 draw at the Emirates Stadium in August's reverse fixture and it's 11/4 for another stalemate, or 13/2 for the same scoreline.

Match Result & Total Goals Over/Under 3.5 - Arsenal & Under 3.5 Goals @ 8/5

Brighton held Arsenal to a draw earlier in the season and have beaten Tottenham Hotspur (3-2) and Manchester City (2-1) at the Amex already in 2024/25; however, they're now seven games without a win, drawing five of those contests, despite having some favourable fixtures in that run.

Arsenal, meanwhile, recovered from a mini wobble in the first half of December, when they drew back-to-back league games against Fulham (1-1) and Everton (0-0), to take maximum points against Crystal Palace (1-5), Ipswich Town (1-0) and Brentford (1-3).

Arteta's side should be confident of victory on Saturday but, like their opponents, they are suffering from injuries, and despite putting five past Palace and three past Brentford recently, I'm not completely convinced by their attack, although Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus have stepped up recently.

Brighton's winless run goes on but they have avoided defeat in their last three games, drawing 1-1 away to West Ham United and 2-2 away to Aston Villa either side of a goalless draw at home against Brentford.

I don't think we'll see too many goals at the Amex this weekend, so I'm taking under 3.5 total goals alongside the match result pick on Arsenal at odds of 8/5. The Gunners' away contests only average just over three goals per game (3.10) while Brighton's home matches average exactly three per game, so the statistics suggest that we could be in slight danger, but that doesn't take into account the absences of Saka, Welbeck and others.

A low-scoring victory for the visitors here, I think.

Price Boosts - Joao Pedro (BHA) 1+ Shots on Target, Gabriel Jesus (ARS) 1+ Shots on Target, Gabriel Martinelli (ARS) 1+ Shots on Target @ 4/1 6/1

Quite simply, the stats are too good to ignore this price boost from Betfred. Joao Pedro is averaging 0.7 shots on target per Premier League game this season and has registered one in his last two games, while he scored with his only shot against the Gunners in August.

Gabriel Jesus, meanwhile, has struck six goals in his last three matches, firing a hat-trick in the Carabao Cup against Palace on December 18 before bagging a brace against the same opposition three days later in the Premier League. He failed to take a shot against Ipswich on December 27 but registered two shots on target at Brentford on Monday, scoring his first, while fellow Brazilian forward Martinelli also got on the scoresheet against the Bees and in Arsenal's league thrashing of Palace on December 21.
