Brentford vs newcastle predictions betting tips premier league saturday december 7 2024

Brentford are aiming to keep hold of their unbeaten Premier League home record this weekend when they welcome Newcastle United to the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday (15:00). The Bees have won six of their seven league games on home soil this season, drawing the other, and have picked up more points (19) at their own ground than any other side.

The Magpies, meanwhile, have been solid, if unspectacular, on their travels this term, claiming nine points from 21 available. The visitors should be in a buoyant mood, though, after Wednesday night's 3-3 draw with league leaders Liverpool. Read below for my Brentford vs Newcastle prediction, complete with all the latest team news and match odds.

Team News

Brentford head coach Thomas Frank is "very hopeful" that midfielder Christian Norgaard will be available for selection this weekend after missing Wednesday's 3-1 defeat at Aston Villa. Kristoffer Ajer could also make his comeback after being absent since October due to a foot injury, with the Norwegian defender training this week, but Frank is "more positive" that Norgaard will feature than Ajer.

Mathias Jensen, Gustavo Nunes, Rico Henry, Aaron Hickey and Josh Dasilva all remain sidelined, however.

Football Odds

Kieran Trippier missed Newcastle's six-goal thriller with Liverpool in midweek due to illness and as such is a doubt for the weekend trip to west London.

Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles and Emil Krafth are definitely ruled out through injury.

Joe Willock, Harvey Barnes and Sean Longstaff could all earn starts after being restricted to substitute appearances on Wednesday.

Brentford are 15/8 to beat Newcastle at home for the first time in Premier League history, giving Thomas Frank's side an implied win probability of 34.8%, while the Magpies are 7/5, or a 41.7% chance, to triumph at the Gtech for the fourth consecutive season.

The draw is priced at 13/5, both teams to score at 4/9, and over 2.5 total goals at 8/15.

Toon star Alexander Isak, whose strike against Liverpool took him to five Premier League goals this term, is 7/5 favourite to score anytime on Saturday, with Brentford pair Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa (both 15/8) first up in the market for the hosts.

Match Result & Both Teams to Score - Draw & Yes @ 3/1

Brentford's home record this season suggests the Bees will take all three points this weekend, while Newcastle's Premier League record at this stadium points to a very different outcome. I'm going to split the difference and go down the middle here, backing a draw and both teams to score in what could be another entertaining affair between the two sides in west London.

There were six goals scored on the final day of the 2023/24 campaign in May as Eddie Howe's team won 4-2 at the Gtech and the previous season saw them also win with both teams getting on the scoresheet as they triumphed 2-1.

Both teams to score has been a feature of Newcastle's away games with 86 per cent (six) of their seven away matches ending with at least one goal on either side - no Premier League team has recorded a higher BTTS percentage on their travels this season.

Brentford, meanwhile, have seen 86 per cent (12) of their 14 league games finish with both teams scoring - including 100 per cent (seven) of their home contests.

BTTS - Yes looks like an obvious selection on Saturday, landing in each team's last two matches, but to raise the odds I've doubled it up with the sides to play out a draw.

Newcastle have already drawn five times this term - three times on their travels - while Brentford have shared the points on two occasions - once at home.

Brentford have a sensational home record this season but are coming off the back of a bad defeat at Villa Park while Newcastle have lost just one of their last five games and can take confidence from how they played against Liverpool on Wednesday. A draw and both teams to score looks good to me at 3/1.

First Team to Score - Brentford @ 1/1

Fast starts have characterised Brentford's season so far, particularly at the Gtech. The Bees have struck first eight times this season and have netted the opening goal on four occasions at home.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have conceded first in eight Premier League games so far this term, going behind five times on their travels.

The Bees will be looking to fly out the traps on Saturday to quickly close the door on Wednesday's abject defeat to Villa, so I'm expecting a quick start to proceedings at the Gtech, with the Magpies on the ropes.

The visitors can grow into the game but I think they'll be recovering from going an early goal down in west London.
