Brentford vs Liverpool Prediction: Goals expected as Reds target title

Liverpool return to Premier League action on Saturday lunchtime (12:30) as they travel to Brentford in search of another three points that will keep them top of the table. As we all know by now, it’s Jurgen Klopp’s favourite kick-off time, but how will the Reds cope down in the capital? We’ve previewed this one and put forward a couple of betting selections for you to consider.
Brentford vs Liverpool Tips
Team News
Yoanne Wissa and Frank Onyeka are back from the AFCON for Brentford in what will be a boost for Thomas Frank who has not been able to name his strongest XI, one way or another, all season. Bryan Mbeumo remains out with an ankle issue, but Ivan Toney is flying as they look to move away from the bottom three.
Liverpool could welcome back Mohamed Salah to the squad after his hamstring issue, but it would be a surprise to see him start here. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s knee injury will keep him out for several weeks, while Alisson and Joe Gomez should have recovered from their illnesses.
Match Odds
Brentford are priced at 4/1 to win this game, while Liverpool are the 3/5 favourites. A draw can be backed at 100/30, BTTS is 8/15 and over 2.5 goals is 1/2.
Liverpool to win and over 3.5 goals @ 11/5
Both teams have scored in the last five Liverpool games in all competitions and although they’ve been a major attacking force despite the absence of Mo Salah, their defence has looked slightly shaky. I wouldn’t be comfortable backing them to keep a clean sheet, but I am more than happy to back them to win the game, with over 3.5 goals in the match.
This selection won in their last match against Burnley, and has also succeeded in four of their last five league matches. The only time they haven’t won during this time was away at Arsenal, and even that match featured over 3.5 goals. With Brentford’s attacking ability, I think a price of 11/5 for this pick is well worth backing.
Diogo Jota to score anytime @ 11/10
In the absence of Salah, Diogo Jota has stepped up to the plate for Liverpool. Over the past six gameweeks he has found the net five times and been absolutely crucial as the Reds have kept the pace up at the top of the table. Now with Salah back in the fold but unlikely to start, I think Diogo Jota will continue this fine run of goalscoring form.
The Portuguese forward has been so lethal in the box and Liverpool’s build-up play is beginning to function with the Portuguese man as the finisher. There’s no doubt he will relish playing against this Brentford defence, who have conceded nine goals in their last three Premier League home matches, so I am happy to back him to find the net again.
