Sheffield United are in serious danger of posting the worst goal difference the Premier League has ever seen. They travel to the south coast to take on Bournemouth on Saturday (15:00) and relegation now feels like a formality for the beleaguered Blades.

Chris Wilder has been unable to turn things around at Bramall Lane and after another home hammering saw them concede six to Arsenal on Monday night, confidence will be at an all time low. Still, their away form has been far better than their home form of late, so can they get a result against Andoni Iraloa’s Bournemouth?

Here is our Bournemouth vs Sheff Utd prediction, featuring two betting selections, team news and match odds.

Bournemouth vs Sheff Utd Tips

  • Over 3.5 goals @ 6/4
  • Sheff Utd to score @ 4/6

Team News

Tyler Adams is out following surgery, joining Ryan Fredericks, James Hill, Max Aarons and Marcos Senesi as absentees for the home side. Ryan Christie could return after his illness, while Lloyd Kelly is edging closer to a return after his groin issue.

Sheff Utd have a whole host of defensive issues. Max Lowe, Rhys Norrington-Davies, Chris Basham and John Egan are out for the season, while Cameron Archer won’t play again before the international break. Mason Holgate will serve the final game of his suspension, while Rhian Brewster and Daniel Jebbison are still sidelined.

Match Odds

AFC Bournemouth are the clear favourites for this one, priced at 1/3, while Sheffield United are 15/2 to pick up a rare win. A draw is priced at 9/2, BTTS is 4/5 and over 2.5 goals is 1/2.

Over 3.5 goals @ 6/4

Sheffield United games almost guarantee goals. With their defensive woes and injury issues, they simply can’t put out a competitive team in the Premier League. They’ve conceded 21 goals in their last six matches and are likely to find life tough again at the Vitality Stadium.

However, it is worth noting that they have been better away from home. They lost 3-2 to Crystal Palace and 1-0 to Wolves, but beat Luton Town on the road 3-1, so perhaps there is a glimmer of hope there. Of their last seven games, only that Wolves match has ended under 3.5 goals, so I’m more than happy to plump for that as our main selection here.

Sheff Utd to score @ 4/6

I’m not asking a lot from Wilder’s men here. Just one goal will do. Now they have been utterly horrific in their last three home games, losing 16-0 on aggregate. But they were down to 10 men early against Brighton, and faced two Champions League chasing teams in Aston Villa and Arsenal.

On the road, against less superior teams, they’ve been able to put up a fight. That performance at Kenilworth Road was impressive, while they also scored twice against Crystal Palace. Now Archer’s absence is a slight concern, but I believe the Blades can score once, even if they end up losing this game.
