The Uefa Champions League has reached the round of 16 stage and last year's finalists Borussia Dortmund are in action on Tuesday (20:00, TNT Sports 2) for the first leg of their tie against Lille at Signal Iduna Park. The Black and Yellows got past Sporting CP in the knockout round and they have lost just one of their five home matches in Europe this term.

Lille have been no strangers to springing a surprise in this competition in 2024/25. The French side have already bested reigning champions Real Madrid and their neighbours Atletico Madrid. Read on for my Borussia Dortmund vs Lille predictions, supported by the latest match odds and team news.

Borussia Dortmund vs Lille Odds

Dortmund have won three of their five home matches in the Champions League this term and they are 7/10 to take the advantage in this first leg.

Their last European appearance at Signal Iduna Park saw them contest a goalless stalemate with Sporting. Lille have also experienced a draw in this competition, which unsurprisingly came against Juventus, who have had a habit of drawing this campaign. The stalemate is marketed at 3/1, which has an implied probability of 25%.

Lille are 4/1 (20%) to stun the hosts and given the teams that they have already taken down in Europe already, whilst they have won two of their four away games in the UCL.

Three of Dortmund's home outings in the Champions League have produced goals at both ends, while BTTS has been a winning selection in Lille's previous six appearances in this competition. You can back this market at 4/5 on Thursday.

Team News

Dortmund boss Niko Kovac only has a couple of fitness concerns ahead of the clash with Lille. Felix Nmecha (knee) and Filippo Mane (muscle) are ruled out due to injury, while Julian Ryerson will be assessed after missing the victory over St Pauli on Saturday due to illness.

Yan Couto performed well in his absence, so Kovac may decide to stick the Brazilian at right-back on Tuesday. Julian Brandt is one assist away from equalling a club record for goals set up in a single European campaign - set by Ousmane Dembele (six) in 2016/17.

Brandt is set for a start here in between Karim Adeyemi and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, who will play behind Serhou Guirassy up top.

Lille's Jonathan David is chasing history of his own. The forward needs one goal to become Les Dogues' all-time leading scorer in European competitions. The Canadian is expected to be part of a huge transfer saga in the summer when his contract expires, but he can leave an impressive legacy at Lille.

Chuba Akpom should make way for him in the starting XI in Dortmund, while either Andre Gomes or talented teenager Ayyoub Bouaddi will come in for  the ineligible Nabil Bentaleb.

Samuel Umtiti (calf), Tiago Santos (ACL) and Edon Zhegrova (groin) are all sidelined for the visitors.

Borussia Dortmund or draw and both teams to score @ 11/10

I think both these teams have shown that they can venture far in the Champions League, and so this should be a very entertaining two-legged affair. Dortmund have been strong when playing at Signal Iduna Park, losing just the once in their five European appearances to date in 2024/25.

It's for that reason that I don't think they will taste defeat in this first leg, but I'm not entirely convinced they will come away with the advantage. Lille have been a surprise package this season and having already beaten reigning champions Real Madrid, they are a force to be reckoned with.

Dortmund may not have been convincing of late in the Bundesliga but this is the kind of game in which their attackers stand up and deliver. I will give them the edge here, but only just. I believe backing Dortmund or draw is the sensible selection here.

The odds have been boosted with BTTS because each of Lille's past six European encounters have seen both teams get on the scoresheet.

Over 3.5 goals @ 2/1

For my second selection I have opted for over 3.5 goals. I think that there are going to be plenty of goals on offer here because both teams have been prolific in this competition. Dortmund netted 22 goals in the league phase and only Barcelona (28) scored more. They added a further three against Sporting in the knockout round, so the attackers have been in fine form.

There were at least four goals scored in four of their 10 matches to date in Europe.

Lille produced 17 in the league phase and their last encounter saw them thrash Feyenoord 6-1. A further two of their UCL contests produced over 3.5 goals. As we start to enter the business end of this competition, I think the pressures will unlock strong performances from both sets of players.
