Bodo/Glimt lock horns with Porto in the Europa League on Wednesday (17:45, TNT Sports 2) at the Aspmyra Stadion. The Norwegian side are deep into their 2024 campaign in which they are seven points clear at the top of the table but they lost on their last outing to second-placed Brann 4-1.

Porto are second in their domestic league having won five of their opening six matches. This should be an interesting contest in Scandinavia and you will find my Bodo/Glimt vs Porto prediction, as well as match odds and team news.

Team News

The hosts have quite a big injury list with Omar Elabdellaoui, Syver Skeide, Daniel Bassi, Nino Zugelj, Brice Wembangomo and Gaute Vetti all in the treatment room. The Norwegian side are still coming to terms with the sale of Albert Gronbaek, who joined Rennes in the summer.

Philip Zinckernagel has come in to replace him, with the player joining on loan from Club Brugge. The former Watford and Nottingham Forest man opened his account for the club in their last outing which was of course the 4-1 defeat to Brann.

Jostein Gundersen could return to the lineup after illness to replace Brede Moe in the heart of defence.

For Porto, Fabio Vieira looks to be edging closer to the required fitness level to be in a position to make his second debut for the club. The midfielder rejoined from Arsenal on loan over the summer as he looks to gain more game time and build up his confidence.

The Portuguese side also lost a key figure over the summer as striker Evanilson departed for Bournemouth in the Premier League. They acted swiftly to bring in Samu Omorodion from Atletico Madrid and the 20-year-old is already finding his way to goals with three in his last two outings. His last appearance saw him net a brace against Vitoria SC, in what was his full debut for the club.

He will be hoping that he will get the nod to start this Europa League opener on Wednesday. However, the visitors will be without the services of Ivan Marcano and Zaidu Sanusi as both are recovering from serious knee injuries.

Over 3.5 goals @ 13/8

I am expecting an entertaining contest here because you have Bodo/Glimt, who are set up to play attacking football by their boss Kjetil Knutsen, against a side with great European pedigree in Porto.

Both teams are filled with quality, especially the visitors, so I am confident that this will be a fascinating game of football. The hosts have shown over recent years that they are a force to be reckoned with in Europe when playing at home, and Porto will be aware that they will be in for a tough trip. Not just because of the way the Norwegian side play but also the drastic change in climate, which could lead them to having a slow start.

Nonetheless, I'm sure they will be well prepared for this clash and so I think goals are worth backing on Wednesday. Porto forward Omorodion is already making his mark on the team after joining over the summer, and he is already linking up well with the other talented attackers in Galeno, Pepe and Nico Gonzalez.

The visitors have scored 12 goals in their opening six league matches, so they are averaging two per game. I can see them achieving that figure on this away trip because of the talent at their disposal. Bodo/Glimt are deep into their own league campaign and have 53 goals from 23 matches, and with their impressive home record in Europe, you have to imagine they will be on the scoresheet too.

I think over 3.5 goals is a smart play here and I think these two sides can deliver a cracker to christen the 2024/25 league phase of the Europa League.

Galeno anytime goalscorer @ 2/1

Porto's Brazilian winger Galeno has had an excellent start to the season. The 26-year-old has four goals in his first six league appearances, looking to build on his strong numbers from 2023/24. Last year, he finished the league campaign with nine goals and seven assists, so he is already in an excellent position to smash that goal tally.

The former Braga man has established himself as a key figure at Porto and with his side one of the favourites to go all the way in the Europa League this year, I believe he will be central to making that a real possibility.

On top of his four league goals this term, he also netted a brace in the Supertaca Candido de Oliveira final against Sporting CP. Porto were three goals down and came back to win the game 4-3 in extra time. This will have given them a huge boost for the season ahead, and they will look to channel that into Europe as well.

Galeno was a regular source of goals for Porto in the Champions League last year with five in seven appearances, including a wondrous curled effort against Arsenal - one that I occasionally go back and watch because it was a beauty.

I believe he can get off to a flying start in the Europa League on Wednesday, so I am backing him to get on the scoresheet.
