Blackpool vs Burton Prediction: Tangerines to get revenge on the Brewers

Blackpool welcome Burton Albion to Bloomfield Road on Wednesday night (19:00) in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy round of 16.

The Tangerines didn't end 2023 the way they wanted, which included a 1-0 defeat at Burton in the festive period, but they have started 2024 brightly with a win over Lincoln City and a draw with Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup.

The Brewers have had a mixed bag of results of late and they will look to inflict a second defeat in the space of a few weeks on the hosts.

Blackpool are the favourites to win this tie in 90 minutes at 8/15. Burton are 4/1 to make it back-to-back wins over the Tangerines, but if you think that this tie will be settled by penalties, a draw can be backed at 3/1.

In the two meetings between these two sides that have already taken place this season, only one team has scored in each encounter. Both teams to score in this one is valued at 4/5. Over 2.5 goals is valued at 8/11.

Team News

The hosts are missing duo Shayne Lavery, who scored a brace against the Brewers back in August, and Kylian Kouassi, with both players out with hamstring problems. Defender Matthew Pennington remains a doubt after suffering concussion against Burton on Boxing Day.

Kwadwo Baah is still sidelined with a hamstring injury for Burton but there are no fresh injury concerns for them as they make the midweek trip to Lancashire.

It hasn't happened yet this season but we are expecting both these sides to get on the scoresheet in this fixture, but we fancy Blackpool to beat Burton once again at Bloomfield Road.

Manager Neil Critchley is expected to make several changes to his side for this cup tie as his main focus will be to make up ground in League One. Blackpool are currently eighth in the table and are four points off the play-offs.

With a few key figures out injured, he will not want to jeopardise or overwork some of his other stars as a trip to Bristol Rovers awaits them on the weekend. In spite of this, we are still likely to see some talented players take to the field against Burton, who in turn could make several changes to the XI that drew with Wycombe Wanderers last time out.

Blackpool have gone unbeaten in 15 home games across all competitions this term, so they are a very tough nut to crack at Bloomfield Road. Burton have already gone there and experienced how difficult it is and we expect them to fall to a second defeat there on Wednesday.

This market stood out because even though we may not see Blackpool's best XI start, they still have the quality to score a handful of goals because they play some exciting football, something which Critchley has implemented in both his spells in charge.

Burton have been very inconsistent this year and you can never predict which version of them you're going to get when they take to the field. We do think that they can score past Blackpool in this one but the Tangerines have plenty of players who can get on the scoresheet and overcome this handicap with ease.

Karamoko Dembele and Sonny Carey, who have scored on multiple occasions this term, are expected to start on Wednesday and they can all cause the Brewers some damage on the attack.
