Football Bet of the Day: Expect Parma to go ham in Turin

We’ve got Carabao Cup action coming our way on Wednesday night, but for our Football Bet of the Day, we are taking a trip over to Italy where Serie A takes centre stage. Our match in focus sees Juventus host Parma (19:45, TNT Sports 1) in a game that will bring together the two definitive clubs of one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time - Gianluigi Buffon.
Our Football Bet of the Day for Wednesday, October 30 focuses on the bookings market, and we think we’ve found some value.
Football Bet of the Day - Wednesday, October 30
- Parma to have the most booking points vs Juventus @ 1/1
Now I’ve taken inspiration from my colleague and Italian football connoisseur Nick Ware for this one, and he wrote a comprehensive Juventus v Parma preview which I recommend you check out at your leisure. But read this one first.
Anyway, something that Mr Ware highlighted in his piece was Parma’s lack of discipline this season, and it’s something I’m keen to take advantage of as they visit the Allianz Stadium. Having been promoted from Serie B just last term, Parma currently sit 17th, just above the relegation zone having picked up eight points from their nine matches so far.
In truth, and as the odds suggest, Juve are probably going to have too much for them on this occasion, but that doesn’t mean we can’t find some value in Turin. You see, Parma’s hard-hitting style under manager Fabbio Pecchia has seen them pick up a league-high four red cards this term, and they showed no signs of slowing down when it comes to keeping the referee busy.

Those four reds have all come in their last seven matches and discipline is now a real issue for them. They’ve failed to win during that spell and Pecchia will be striving to get the balance right here, between being aggressive and reckless. In Nick’s preview, he picks out Parma to get a red card at 13/2, but I’m going to make things simpler for our Football Bet of the Day.
All that I want to happen at the Allianz, is for Parma to get more booking points than Juventus do. Simple as that. We can envisage that Juventus are going to have far more of the ball and launch multiple attacks on the Parma goal, which will lead to them drawing fouls from the opposition. Luca Zufferli, the referee for the night, is going to have to try and keep on top of what I believe could turn out to be a feisty clash.
The Crusaders picked up four yellow cards in their 1-1 draw with Empoli, but managed to keep all 11 players on the pitch, and I can see them having to put in another gritty display to try and disrupt Juve. The home side are fairly timid when it comes to picking up cards this season, having accumulated 15 yellows and one red in Serie A to date.
All in all, I think this game lends itself perfectly to backing the away side to simply pick up more booking points than the home team will on Wednesday night. At 1/1, it might not be as sexy as backing them to get a red card - which is also a distinct possibility, but I do believe we will be celebrating a winner come full-time.
