Fresh after winning the Carabao Cup on Sunday, Liverpool are back in action, this time in the FA Cup. On Wednesday night, they welcome Southampton to Anfield in the fifth round, hoping to take one step closer to another major trophy in Jurgen Klopp's farewell season in charge of the Reds.

It is from this fixture that our football bet of the day comes, and it is good reading for Liverpool supporters.

Football Bet of the Day - Wednesday 28 February

  • Liverpool and both teams to score in Liverpool vs Southampton @ 13/8

Liverpool gave a tremendous account of themselves against Chelsea on Sunday as their squad, that was missing several key players, stood firm against a strong Blues XI. Klopp's kids is the phrase coined for the final as youngsters Bobby Clark, Jayden Danns, James McConnell and Jarell Quansah all battled bravely in extra time as Chelsea cowered.

The group will be high on confidence heading into Wednesday and will be raring to go against Championship high-flyers Southampton.

Injuries are still a concern for the Reds in terms of the Premier League title race but as we saw over the weekend, they still have more than enough within their ranks to make them competitive until the likes of Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold return to action.

With the Anfield roar behind them as the Liverpool supporters welcome the Carabao Cup heroes home, Liverpool could be in for another exciting evening of football with a place in the FA Cup quarter-finals at stake.

They have plenty of firepower available despite the absences of Salah, Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota. Cody Gakpo has been in a good run of form in front of goal lately, as has Alexis Mac Allister. Harvey Elliott offers a goal threat whether he is deployed in midfield or out wide, and Luis Diaz always poses a danger to the opposition.

There is still plenty of quality for Klopp to call upon to get the team through the next few weeks, and they should have more than enough to get past Southampton here, but the injury crisis could give the Saints a fighting chance.

Russell Martin's men play an exciting brand of football that is possession-based, and they have players who can hurt a makeshift Liverpool XI in the form of Adam Armstrong and Che Adams, who have scored a combined 27 goals this season.

Liverpool should be able to ride the wave of Sunday's triumph to another victory here, but we do fancy Southampton to get on the scoresheet, particularly as they have found the back of the net in their last 15 trips on the road.
