We once again turn our attention to the Champions League on Wednesday night as Europe’s biggest clubs collide. We’ve taken a look at the action and picked out one bet of the day, this time from the Champions League Hot Shots market.

Football Bet of the Day – Wednesday 24th October

  • Atletico Madrid to be the highest scoring Champions League team @ 18/1

This is a long shot, I admit, but the price is far too long to turn down at 18/1. With Barcelona in action at home to Shakhtar Donetsk and Manchester City up against Young Boys, we could see some big scores in the Champions League on Wednesday. But Atletico Madrid are capable of racking up a big scoreline as well, up against a Celtic side that simply isn’t on the same level as them.

Young Boys will likely lose against Man City, but with a derby to come on Sunday, if the away side race into an early lead, expect them to take their foot off the gas relatively early. Meanwhile, Barcelona have the small matter of El Clasico to come on Saturday at 15:15, and with Real Madrid in wait, we can also expect them to rest key stars once they take the lead.

With the giants keeping one eye on the weekend, RB Leipzig are worthy contenders in this market at 10/3, at home to Crvena Zvezda. However, the market price on Atletico Madrid, a massive 18/1, simply doesn’t reflect the disparity in quality between themselves and opponents Celtic.

The famous Celtic Park atmosphere will hope to bridge that gap, but I simply don’t see it happening, and a big away win could be on the cards. Atleti have scored three goals in four of their last six outings, including hitting three past Real Madrid. They’ve scored 23 in just nine league matches, giving them the best goals per game ratio in the league, and they hit seven past Rayo Vallecano earlier in the campaign.

They also scored three past Feyenoord in their last Champions League outing, and scored three against Celta Vigo at the weekend. With a front two of Antoine Griezmann and Alvaro Morata, they posses one of the finest front lines anywhere in Europe, and they’ve struck up a simply wonderful partnership this season.

The time-wasting and disciplined Diego Simeone outfit that we knew and loved are now a thing of the past, and there’s now an argument that this Atletico Madrid side are one of the best to watch in Europe. They are also seriously in contention to beat both Barcelona and Real Madrid to the title this season. They are that good.

Celtic are not going to be able to cope with the Spanish giants and I’m expecting Morata and Griezmann to have a field day in Glasgow. The 18/1 on them to be top scorers on Wednesday night feels like it is about twice as long as it should be. With Man City and Barcelona having other priorities, Atleti can take full advantage.
