Wednesday offers up a couple of football matches for us to consider, as the international break begins and the FA Cup replays take centre stage. However our bet of the day comes as Belgium host Serbia in an international friendly.

Football Bet of the Day - Wednesday 15th November

  • Belgium to beat Serbia with a -2 handicap @ 11/2

Belgium host Serbia in an international friendly on Wednesday night, with kick-off at 19:45. This game will give Domenico Tedesco a chance to prepare his squad before their final Euro 2024 qualifier with Azerbaijan, but qualification is already secured for the finals.

The home side have picked up 17 points from seven qualifying matches, and gone undefeated so far in the group. Since Tedesco took charge and revamped the side after their dismal showing in the World Cup, Belgium have been absolutely superb. They are undefeated in 2023, and have won six of their seven fixtures this year.

Their only draw came against Austria and Tedesco has elevated Belgium and helped them focus their attention away from the failed golden generation. Romelu Lukaku is a goalscoring sensation and wonderful captain, while the likes of Jeremy Doku and Dodi Lukebakio have revamped the wide areas.

Andre Onana and Orel Mangala have added something different to the midfield and there’s finally a feeling that the country can move on from the failed generation of Eden Hazard and co. With Kevin De Bruyne to come back into the squad when he is fit, they could be an outside pick to win Euro 2024 at 14/1.

This brings us to Wednesday night, where they will host Serbia. I’m backing a big home win in this encounter, and the price on Belgium actually seems fairly generous. They are 11/2 to win by a -2 handicap against a Serbia outfit who aren’t what they once were. They have recently been beaten home and away by Hungary, while they drew with Bulgaria earlier in the year.

Top spot in their group is still up for grabs so they may divert their attention to the weekend’s match-up with Bulgaria, while I simply don’t think they have the defensive fortitude to cope with Belgium’s attacking talent. A big home win at a healthy price has piqued my interest.
