We’ve got a whole host of football action to look forward to on Wednesday night, as the Champions League returns to our screens. However, we’ve also got a stack full of Championship games and it is from the second tier that our Football Bet of the Day for Wednesday 14 February 2024 has been selected.

Football Bet of the Day - Wednesday 14th February

  • Coventry to win and over 3.5 goals @ 10/3

Coventry City travel down to Plymouth Argyle hoping to keep their play-off push on track. The Sky Blues are currently sitting in 6th position after a 2-1 win over Millwall on Sunday, and their form over the past two months has been incredibly impressive.

Mark Robins’ men have won eight of their last 12 matches and they’ve lost just once in all competitions since the 2nd December. It’s a run that has carried them up from 20th in the table to the play-offs, and now they are in prime position to finish in the top six for a second successive season.

There’s a lot to like about them this term. Viktor Gyokeres and Gustavo Hamer have gone, but instead Robins has invested in the squad, with the likes of Haji Wright, Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, Liam Kitching and Bobby Thomas all impressing since arriving in the summer. It was always going to take some time for these players to gel, but now they seem to be on the right track.

They’ve also found a glut of goals of late. The Sky Blues have scored in every match since the 11th November, and scored at least twice in eight of their last nine games. Now, given Plymouth are known for conceding goals of late, the away side should be able to win this one in style.

In fact, five of Plymouth’s last seven Championship home games have had over 3.5 goals and 12 of their last 14 have had over 2.5. They conceded three against Sunderland last time out, four against Leeds in the FA Cup and although they have a strong home record, it feels like they aren’t quite as strong under Ian Foster.

Having said that, they have only lost three times in the league at home. Home Park is an incredibly tough place to go and with the likes of Morgan Whittaker flying, they are a tough team to stop. I believe both teams will score and there will be plenty of goals, but I’m just backing the Sky Blues to come out on top.

With Bobby Thomas and Kitching likely to return to the centre of defence, they should be able to win this game as they continue their good run of form. The Sky Blues are flying high, and they will be desperate to secure a big win on the south coast.
