Peterborough United

We’ve got a whole host of football action to look forward to on Wednesday night, including two Champions League ties and some Scottish Premiership action. However, for our Football Bet of the Day for Wednesday, 13 March, we are taking a trip down to League One.

Peterborough host Stevenage at the Weston Homes Stadium (20:00) as two of the play-off contenders collide in a crucial match, and we are backing the home side to come out on top.

Football Bet of the Day - Wednesday March 13

  • Peterborough to win to nil @ 11/5

Darren Ferguson’s men have been somewhat streaky this season. Luckily for us, they are currently in a purple patch, having won their last four games in all competitions. They are also scoring goals for fun, having scored 10 in their last three outings.

With the likes of Kwame Poku, Ephron Mason-Clark, Ricky Jade-Jones and Jonson Clarke-Harris, Posh boast the finest attacking unit in the division. Not to mention, a wealth of double-barrelled surnames, I hope the club shop is well-stacked with hyphens!

Posh have scored 71 league goals so far, the highest in League One this term. They’ve 11 more goals than league leaders Portsmouth and are now hunting down the top two and those all important automatic promotion places. Ferguson has taken this side to within three points of third before this round of midweek fixtures, and if they can keep on winning, they may just overhaul Derby and Bolton.

That’s the aim this campaign, but if they want to achieve it, they will have to win most of their home games - especially those against play-off hopefuls. Stevenage are exactly that, having won promotion from League Two last season under Steve Evans, they have come on leaps and bounds to compete at the top end of the third-tier. They are arguably the toughest side to play against in League One, and will put up a fight against anybody they play.

They are used to being the underdogs, and used to fighting for every single point, so expect nothing different as they travel to Peterborough on Wednesday night. They’ve been remarkable from a defensive point of view of late, keeping four clean sheets on the bounce. However, their last two games have finished 0-0 and they have struggled in attack, scoring by far the fewest amount of goals of those currently in the top six.

So what happens when an irresistible force meets an immovable object?

Well, I fancy Peterborough to break the resolve of this determined Stevenage defence and score at least once on their way to victory. We can give ourselves a nice boost by backing Peterborough to win to nil, which given Stevenage’s blunt attack, is a serious possibility.

Posh simply have to win to keep their automatic hopes alive and I believe their incredible attack will be able to find the goals needed to secure all three points. Our Football Bet of the Day for Wednesday, March 13 is Peterborough to win to nil at 11/5.

Posh win to nil
