Football Bet of the Day: Real Madrid can lay marker down vs RB Leipzig

The Champions League returns on Tuesday night, as the knockout stages begin in earnest.

We’ve also got a full set of fixtures from the Football League to consider, but for our Football Bet of the Day we are focusing on the crème de la crème. Real Madrid have won the European Cup 14 times, and they will look to make it to the quarter-finals as they travel to Germany to take on RB Leipzig. 

Real Madrid took a giant stride towards the La Liga title this weekend as they hammered second-placed Girona 4-0. A brace from Jude Bellingham set them on their way as they tore apart their unlikely title challengers. It was only Girona’s second defeat of the season but now there is a five-point gap between Carlo Ancelotti’s men and their nearest challengers. 

From an attacking perspective, they are a serious force to be reckoned with. Bellingham is a goalscoring sensation in that number ten role, while Vinicius Jr and Rodrigo are the perfect forwards to compliment him. With Aurélien Tchouaméni  and Dani Carvajal an unlikely centre-back pairing, they even kept Girona at bay and there is no reason why they can’t go to Leipzig and show their superiority. 

I think Real Madrid will score two or three goals away form home in this one, and they are priced at 11/4 to score over 2.5 goals. However, the better pick in my eyes is Real Madrid to win with a -1 handicap @ 3/1. 

RB Leipzig have been worryingly leaky of late. They drew 2-2 with 11th-placed Augsburg last time out and are now down to 5th in the Bundesliga. They’ve only won once in their last five outings, losing three of those games, and they’ve conceded 11 goals during those five games. 

They don’t look as strong as they were last season and they finished second in their Champions League group behind Manchester City, but ahead of Young Boys and Crvena zvezda. Now up against Real Madrid, I’m expecting the German side to find life incredibly tough. I believe the Spanish giants, who look destined for another league title, will put this tie to bed early on. 

A big away win will do that in Leipzig, so our Football Bet of the Day for Tuesday 13 February 2024 is Real Madrid to win with a -1 handicap @ 3/1.
