Football Bet of the Day: Wales’ away woes set to continue

There's plenty of pre-Euros football to focus on with plenty of international friendlies taking place across the weekend, as teams continue their final preparations before heading to Germany.

My focus for Sunday's Football Bet of the Day will be on Wales' clash wirth Slovakia (KO, 19:45). The Dragons missed out on Euro 2024 qualification, and suffered one of the worst results in their history this week, after being held 0-0 by minnows Gibraltar. That result meant that Wales had avoided defeat for the first time since November, and they'll be looking to respond against Slovakia here - a side that will feature in this summer's Euros in Germany.

Football Bet of the Day - Sunday, June 9

  • Slovakia to win to nil @ 23/10

Slovakia vs Wales Odds

Slovakia are 11/10 to taste victory in their final game before Euro 2024, while Wales are 5/2 - or a 28.6% chance - to bounce back from that disappointing draw with Gibraltar. Meanwhile, the draw can be backed a 23/10, and if you fancy there to be goals, over 2.5 goals is currently priced up at 11/10.

As mentioned in the introduction, Wales are in poor form, and goals have been a real issue for this team.

However, Slovakia's forwards are hardly pulling up trees either, and two of their last six wins have been by a 1-0 scoreline, which is why I believe Slovakia to win to nil is the most likely outcome when these sides meet on Sunday.

Having looked solid throughout the Euro 2024 qualifying campaign - only losing to Portugal - Slovakia will be aiming to build some momentum before Euro 2024 kicks off. They were rampant on Wednesday, claiming a 4-0 victory over San Marino in their previous international friendly.

That result extends Slovakia’s recent good form as they have now won eight of their last 12 matches across all competitions.

Four of Wales’ last five games have seen under 2.5 goals land, and with Slovakia lacking real quality going forward, I'm not anticipating a goal-fest. The Welsh have also found things difficult on their recent travels, claiming just one win from their last nine away matches.

Slovakia to win to nil at 23-10

Rob Page will be desperate to see his side respond to the draw against Gibraltar, who are a side that have lost their last 13 games by an aggregate score of 50-0. Despite their absence at this summer's Euros, Page will know it's imperative bounce back from that poor result.

This Wales team are in transition after seeing the likes of Gareth Bale depart in recent years, but just one win in their last five matches is nothing to write home about, and confidence will be low in camp.

Similarly, Slovakia will recognise the importance of arriving in Germany on the back of a win, and I'm predicting a comfortable one at that.
