Football Bet of the Day: Lionesses can roar at Wembley

Our Football Bet of the Day for Friday, July 12 comes from Wembley, where England’s women are in action against the Republic of Ireland in a Euro 2025 qualifier. The men have just made it to the final of Euro 2024 as they strive to repeat the Lionesses achievement of 2022 this weekend.

But now we turn our attention back to Sarina Wiegman’s side, as they look to defend their crown. Below you can find my Football Bet of the Day as Wembley awaits. 

England need to start producing results if they want to make it through to Euro 2025. They currently sit third in their four-team group, level on points with Sweden and two points adrift of group leaders France after four matches. Only the top two automatically qualify, with the others involved in the play-off process, but Wiegman will be desperate to get the job done in the most straightforward fashion. 

Meanwhile the Girls in Green are targeting only their second major tournament after their showing in last year’s World Cup in Australia. They haven’t won any of their four qualification matches so far, and are outsiders to get anything at Wembley, while they already know they will have to go through the play-offs if they are to make their way to Switzerland next summer. 

Ireland haven’t been able to get anywhere near the other three teams in the group so far, failing to score a single goal in qualification. They’ve only lost by more than two goals once through, but as the lowest-ranked team in the group expectations are fairly low for this squad. 

England vs Republic of Ireland Odds

Magdalena Eriksson’s late winner stole all three points for Sweden in Ireland’s last outing and Eileen Gleeson will be hopeful of landing a blow on England this time around. However, her side haven’t won in their last six, so I am going to side with the Lionesses to get a big win at Wembley. 

Mary Earps, Niamh Charles, Lauren James, Lotte Wubben-Moy and Kayla Rendell are all out for this one, with the latter trio pulling out of the squad completely. However, England’s attackers should enjoy a profitable evening with the likes of Beth Mead, Lauren Hemp and Alessia Russo all set to start. They have the talent to tear any team in the world apart, and should put on a show here. 

Given Ireland are going to sit deep with a back five, I think England will dominate possession and break them down on multiple occasions. I’m happy to back the home side to win by at least three goals in today’s Football Bet of the Day.
