Football Bet of the Day: Potential goal-fest in West London in City win

The Premier League finale for Matchweek 23 sees reigning champions Manchester City travel to the capital to face Brentford in what could be another classic encounter.

In what has already been an enthralling weekend of top-tier football, with an average of just over five goals scored in each of Saturday’s fixtures, another goalfest could well be on the cards at the Gtech Community Stadium.

The expected win for City would keep them firmly in the running for yet another league title under Pep Guardiola while Brentford, who did the double over the Citizens last season, could do with nicking any form of result in their bid to avoid the drop.

  • Man City to win and over 3.5 goals @ 2/1

There are only a handful of games across Europe on Monday night, with Cagliari’s visit to Roma in Serie A and Rayo Vallecano’s game with Sevilla the only other fixtures taking place across Europe’s top divisions.

Those encounters look to be shaping up to be tight, low-scoring affairs, so the most lucrative betting option looks to be coming from West London.

City are unsurprisingly the overwhelming favourites in the match result market at 4/11, having won each of their last eight games in all competitions while they are unbeaten in 11, winning 10.

Six of the wins in that run have been away from home, and three of those six victories have seen would-be winners in the over 3.5 goals market.

Brentford fans have also witnessed plenty of goalmouth action and drama in recent weeks, with each of their last three games ending in a 3-2 result, with the Bees on the winning side of that scoreline just once - against Nottingham Forest in their last home match.

The return of star striker Ivan Toney up front will undoubtedly help the West London side in their goalscoring ambitions against City, with the 27-year old netting both goals in their 2-1 win at the Etihad last season.

Guardiola has also seen his fair share of important returns in recent weeks, most notably vice-captain Kevin De Bruyne, who has registered a goal and three assists in his four matches across all competitions.

Erling Haaland could also feature as he returns from a foot injury, and their partnership could see the Brentford defence severely tested across the 90 minutes as the Norwegian looks to build on his 14 league goals registered this campaign.

Seven of City’s last 10 games have seen the champions score at least three times, so they look a decent bet to match that figure and, with the Bees scoring in each of their last five games in front of their own fans, it would not be surprising to see Thomas Frank’s men grab a consolation goal or two.
