Monday night football action from the Premier League this week features Newcastle United's trip to west London to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge (KO, 20:00), which forms our Football Bet of the Day for Monday, March 11.

Trusting either team to get the job done is a stretch but we've found a #PickYourPunt involving goals and Chelsea's best performer this season.

Football Bet of the Day: Monday 11 March

  • #PickYourPunt: Cole Palmer to score anytime, over 2.5 goals, both teams to score @ 15/8

A mid-table showdown in the month of March isn't what Chelsea or Newcastle would have hoped for this season but that's what they've got in west London on Monday evening.

After Saturday's action, the Magpies are seven points shy of sixth-placed Manchester United, with Chelsea now 11 behind the Red Devils, albeit with two games in hand on Erik ten Hag's outfit.

Recent league form doesn't inspire any confidence in either team. Chelsea have just one win in their last five, an away-day success at Crystal Palace that needed two stoppage-time goals for a 3-1 win.

Excluding a tense League Cup final against Liverpool at Wembley, Chelsea's games since late January have yielded five, six, four, four, two, five and four goals, the outlier being a creditable 1-1 draw at champions Manchester City in the league.

Since a 1-0 win over Fulham in January, Mauricio Pochettino's side have shipped a dozen goals in five league games. At home this season they are averaging a 1.5 goals-against per game.

Newcastle (57) are by some margin the highest scorers outside of the top five clubs in the division and will fancy their chances but Eddie Howe's side have problems at the back, conceding 29 times in 13 on the road in the league already.

They have won three of their last five in the league but the 3-0 success against Wolves last time was a first shutout in nine Premier League attempts and preceding that they had shipped four to Arsenal, two each to Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest and another four at home to Luton.

It's fair to suggest that both managers are entitled to feel as though attack might be the best form of defence at the Bridge.

Both teams look well placed to score and over 2.5 goals has landed in 13 of the last 14 Premier League games contested by Chelsea or Newcastle. The reverse fixture at St James' Park ended 4-1 to the home side in November.

Cole Palmer has been a bright spark all season for Chelsea, the 21-year-old summer arrival from Man City boasting 10 goals in 23 Premier League appearances amid a tally of 14 in all competitions.

He's without a goal in three now, his longest goalless streak since he established himself as a regular starter at the beginning of October, and if the goals flow as anticipated he can end that mini-drought.

A Palmer anytime goal, allied to both teams scoring and over 2.5 total goals brings our #PickYourPunt on this game up to a handsome 15/8 reward.
