Two sides already very familiar with each other after progressing from the same qualification group go head-to-head in Group D as the Netherlands take on France in Leipzig.

Read on for my Football Bet of the Day for Friday.

Football Bet of the Day - June 21

  • Netherlands to win and both teams to score @ 5/1

Netherlands vs France Odds

France finished top of the pile in qualifying with seven wins from their eight games and they won both of their home and away meetings with the Netherlands - winning 4-0 in Paris and 2-1 in Amsterdam.

The Dutch will therefore be hoping to enact some revenge when the two meet on Friday and an injury to one of their stars could have just opened the door for Ronald Koeman’s side to claim a famous victory.

France are one of the favourites for success in Germany, alongside the hosts and England, and Les Bleus got off to a perfect start with victory over Austria on Monday, with Max Wober’s own goal the difference between the two sides.

However, this victory came at a cost for Didier Deschamps as star striker and captain Kylian Mbappe suffered a broken nose and had to be replaced late on, with the 25-year-old now expected to miss out on Friday.

Mbappe had plenty of joy when facing the Dutch in qualifying, scoring four of France’s six goals across their two meetings, and his absence could hit the French hard as well as opening the door for some rare Oranje success over Les Bleus.

Euro 2024 Odds

The Netherlands have won just one of their previous eight meetings with France - this coming in the Nations League back in 2018 -  however their recent performances would suggest that this record could be improved upon in Leipzig..

Ronald Koeman’s men have won seven of their last eight in all competitions - tasting defeat just once in a friendly against Germany back in March - and six of these wins have come accompanied by a clean sheet.

However, another shutout against even an Mbappe-less France side seems a tall order, especially given that the Dutch have kept a French attack at bay just once across their last eight meetings - a run stretching back to 2008.

The Netherlands scored 17 goals in qualifying and two of the three players that led the way in scoring for the Oranje are at the disposal of Koeman in Germany in the form of Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo and Burnley’s Wout Weghorst.

Both could be real threats for the Dutch on Friday. Gakpo netted the equaliser against Poland on Sunday while Weghorst - who grabbed the winner from the bench - has scored in each of his last three international appearances, all of which have come as a substitute.

The form of these two could help steer the Dutch towards success in Leipzig, however France were the second top scorers in qualifying and they should be able to get on the scoresheet to make things nervy for the Netherlands.

Netherlands to win and btts at 5-1
