Football Bet of the Day: Spurs can win thriller in Nottingham

Heading into the weekend we have some Friday Night Football to look forward to in the Premier League as Tottenham Hotspur visit Nottingham Forest. It is this game that sees our pick for the Football Bet of the Day for Friday 15 December.

Tottenham Hotspur face a tough looking trip to Nottingham on Friday night as they look to back up their win over Newcastle with another three points here. There’s no doubt that the absences of James Maddison and Micky van de Ven have seriously knocked Spurs off course, but they ended a run of four straight with that victory on Sunday. 

Meanwhile, Forest have been in a difficult spell ever since they beat Aston Villa. They also lost four games in a row, including a 5-0 hammering at Fulham that looked like it would spell the end of the road for manager Steve Cooper. However, the Welshman is still in charge and earnt a 1-1 draw with Wolves last time out. Although owner Evangelos Marinakis is never far away from pulling the trigger, this feels like the closest Cooper has come to the sack. 

Having said that, Marinakis stuck with him last term and reaped the rewards as Nottingham Forest survived comfortably, so perhaps he will be tempted to do the same through this difficult Christmas period. They face a really tricky game here though against a side who have had the confidence boost they desperately needed. 

We’ve seen so far under Postecoglou just how good Spurs can be using his attractive style of play, and it felt like we moved back towards that in the win over Newcastle, as Cristian Romero returned from suspension and Richarlison scored twice on a rare start. With those two back to full fitness, that gives the team far more structure, and now they are missing just one starting centre-back, rather than two. 

The rest of the team looks incredibly strong with Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson both impressing behind Brazil’s number nine. The pressure has also been taken off Heung-min Son who now has other talented attackers to help him carry the goalscoring load. With Richarlison back in form, that front four should be able to run riot against a Forest side we have seen concede several goals in the past few weeks. 

They capitulated at Fulham, and conceded three to both West Ham and Brighton, so Spurs will want to get right at them from the first whistle on Friday night. I think the away side will have enough to win this game and it should be a thriller, which is why our Football Bet of the Day for Friday 15 December, is Tottenham Hotspurs to beat Nottingham Forest, with over 3.5 goals in the game at 11/4.
