Football Bet of the Day: Undav & Wirtz to profit for Germany

Bosnia and Herzegovina welcome Germany to Bilino Polje in the Uefa Nations League on Friday night (19:45), as they search for their first win in League A Group 3. Their last outing saw them play out a goalless draw with Hungary, which followed a 5-2 defeat to the Netherlands.

Germany drew 2-2 with the Netherlands and smashed Hungary 5-0 in the last international break. I think this could be another profitable game for the Nationalelf so my 7/1 football bet of the day comes from this contest, which you will find below.

Football Bet of the Day - Friday, October 11

  • Bet Builder - Deniz Undav & Florian Wirtz to score, and both teams to score - No @ 7/1

Bosnia vs Germany Odds

Germany can consider themselves unfortunate for not going as far as they would've liked at Euro 2024 over the summer. I thought the home nation had a chance of going all the way, and there is no doubt about it that they were in the top two teams that played at the tournament.

The only problem was that they drew the best team, Spain, far earlier than we would have liked, in the quarter-finals. Had Julian Nagelsmann's side been given another pathway without facing La Roja until at least the final, I'm confident we would have seen them qualify for the showpiece.

Germany will be proud of their efforts, though, even if they will be disappointed at the stage of their exit. Considering the decline of the Nationalelf following their 2014 World Cup triumph, fans were given a lot of positives by Nagelsmann over the summer, and there is hope for the future.

The former Bayern Munich boss has a strong squad at his disposal and he looks to be getting the best out of them. They have started their Nations League campaign well with four points, and they will be chasing more over the course of the October international break.

Anyway, into the bet builder itself. My selection starts with two goalscorers, both of whom play for Germany. The first one is Deniz Undav, the striker who you might remember failing to light up the pitch in a Brighton & Hove Albion shirt.

I don't think it was for lack of ability, more that the Seagulls had a few options to choose from up front while he was there. He was never given a consistent run of games to show what he's about.

He left England's south coast last season by returning to him homeland with VfB Stuttgart on loan, and it was a very fruitful spell to say the least. Undav made 30 appearances in the Bundesliga, contributing 18 goals and nine assists to help Stuttgart return to the Champions League this season.

The 28-year-old made the move permanent over the summer and he already has six goals across all competitions. One of them came in the Champions League away to Real Madrid, so Stuttgart have unlocked the talent that Brighton could not.

Football Odds

His excellent form for Stuttgart has earned him a place in the national team, and he netted his first international goal in the draw with the Netherlands last time out. I think he is a smart selection to score in this game because Kai Havertz is out injured, and Undav has been playing more regularly than Niclas Fullkrug, who picked up an injury on international duty last month.

The second scorer is Florian Wirtz, the exciting attacker of Bayer Leverkusen. The youngster dazzled on the Euros stage at the summer, scoring two goals in five appearances, but it is his stunning performances at Leverkusen that are forging him into a star.

In last year's surprising Bundesliga title win, Wirtz contributed 11 goals and 11 assists for his side as they ended Bayern Munich's period of dominance. The 21-year-old was also on the scoresheet for his country in the 5-0 drubbing of Hungary last time out, so I think he can score again.

The final leg is both teams to score - no. This is because I think Germany are strong enough to keep an out-of-form Bosnia side at bay, even if they are the visiting team. The Nationalelf kept a clean sheet against Hungary and they also posted another two shutouts at the Euros in the summer, with one also coming against Hungary.

Bosnia have scored just twice so far in the Nations League, but they are about to face a much tougher defence than the ones they have played against so far. I think Germany will be able to win this game to nil.
