There is a huge battle in the Championship promotion race on Friday night (20:00) as West Bromwich Albion host Coventry City at The Hawthorns.

The Baggies are fifth in the table and have a four-point cushion in the play-off places. Coventry are five behind them in ninth, so this game is huge for them. As we prepare for a fascinating encounter in the West Midlands, we have plucked our football bet of the day from this fixture.

Football Bet of the Day - Friday 1 March

  • #PickYourPunt - BTTS Yes & Ellis Simms to score anytime in West Bromwich Albion vs Coventry City @ 3/1

After being stunned by a 3-0 defeat at home to Preston North End last Friday, Coventry responded with a 3-0 victory of their own against Maidstone United in the FA Cup fifth round, with Ellis Simms netting his first career hat-trick.

The Baggies' last league outing came against another promotion rival in Hull City and they played out a 1-1 draw on Humberside.

That was a tight contest and we might just be in for another one here on Friday night. Both these sides have won two of their last five matches in the Championship but Albion have been in better form with just one defeat to the Sky Blues' two.

Given the repercussions at stake from this battle come the end of the season, both sets of players will be fired up and we're expecting there to be excitement at either end of the pitch.

Our bet of the day has been a specifically-created #PickYourPunt which is BTTS and Ellis Simms to score anytime. We fancy both teams to get on the scoresheet here because there is plenty of quality in attack on either side, with plenty of goalscorers available to take part.

Coventry have been handed a blow in that exciting winger Tatsuhiro Sakamoto is likely out for the rest of the season due to injury, but Mark Robins still has the likes of Simms, Haji Wright and Callum O'Hare to come up with the goods.

As for Albion, they have Brandon Thomas-Asante, Jed Wallace, John Swift, Mikey Johnston and Grady Diangana. There should be no issues with BTTS landing at The Hawthorns.

When it comes to Coventry, we think Simms can play his part in that selection coming in. Following his hat-trick on Monday night, he has now scored five goals in his last four appearances across all competitions. The striker now has nine goals for the campaign and he will be eager to reach double figures sooner rather than later.

He heads to Albion full of confidence and if he can continue his scoring run, it could play a huge part in the rest of the Sky Blues' season.

#PickYourPunt at 3/1
