Belgium vs France Prediction: Goals expected as neighbours meet

We’ve got a true heavyweight clash coming our way on Monday night at 19:45 as Belgium host 2022 World Cup finalists France at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels. It promises to be an interesting affair as Group 2 of League A in the Nations League is looking tight. Italy currently lead the way on seven points, with France level-pegging with them but behind on goal difference.
Meanwhile, Belgium have collcected five points and so still have a chance of topping the group and Israel are the whipping boys, having lost three from three. It means this encounter between friendly neighbours has a lot riding on it, and below you can find my Belgium vs France prediction.
Team News
Domenico Tedesco set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation against Italy, and although they went 2-0 down, a red card for Lorenzo Pellegrini turned the game around. From that point, Belgium dominated and showed their attacking class as Maxim De Cuyper and Leandro Trossard found the net. Expect Trossard to start from the left again with Jeremy Doku on the right. Charles De Ketelaere will likely play in the number 10 role behind Luis Openda again, but there could be a change at the back as Arthur Theate was substituted and Timothy Castagne came off the bench.
France meanwhile began with Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga in midfield against Israel and the Real Madrid duo look set to continue here after a solid display. In the absence of Kylian Mbappe, they started behind the talented quartet of Ousmane Dembele, Michael Olise, Christopher Nkunku and Randal Kolo Muani, but Bradley Barcola will hope to be handed a start after coming off the bench.
Belgium are priced at 9/5 to win this game, with France available at 6/4 for the win. A draw can be backed at 12/5, over 2.5 goals is 4/5 and BTTS is 4/6. Openda and Kolo Muani are joint-favourites to open the scoring at 6/1.
BTTS @ 4/6
These two have plenty of attacking talent and given Belgium are also at home, I think we are set for goals on Monday night. Tedesco has set his stall out as an attacking manager and the home side will be striving to prove they can test France having lost 2-0 to the same opponent last month. In that game though they did prove an attacking threat and had four shots on target, so a goal here isn’t out of the question.
Meanwhile, France’s attack needs no introduction. Even without Mbappe they scored four against Israel and Didier Deschamps has a wealth of talent at his disposal. His latest dilemma involves trying to get Olise and Dembele into the same side, with the Bayern Munich man playing at number 10 last time out. With an embarrassment of riches, France should find the net again.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
France win, BTTS and Christopher Nkunku to score @ 11/2
I’ve whipped up a bet builder to finish here. We don’t need to go over the BTTS segment again, but I do think France will win in the Belgian capital. They’ve got so much quality and are still the European team to be feared in major internationals.
They’ve got a perfect blend of experience and youth, as well as a manager used to winning things. They’ll certainly be one of the favourites to win the 2026 World Cup and are working towards success there, and Nations League glory would certainly set them on their way. Given Italy are likely to beat Israel, they really need three points here, while I’ve also picked out a goalscorer.
Nkunku has not been given as many minutes as he possibly should have been for Chelsea this season, having suffered an injury that ruled him out for the majority of the last campaign. However, he’s back involved with France, and he scored against Israel on Thursday night. I think he’s done enough to start again here on the left, and he has the class to find the net again.
