Belgium vs Slovakia Bet Builder Tips: 10/1 shout for goalfest

It feels as though Belgium have finally moved on from their golden generation. Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku remain, but the likes of Eden Hazard have retired, and now with Domenico Tedesco in charge, there is hope that Euro 2024 could be a positive tournament. 

With lower expectations than usual, Belgium could surprise a few people this summer, and they get their tournament underway against Slovakia on Monday (17:00, ITV1). Below you can find my Belgium vs Slovakia Bet Builder Tips.

Belgium to win

I think this is the perfect opening game for Belgium, and they should be able to come out on top and secure all three points. They went unbeaten in qualifying, winning six out of eight matches, and drew 2-2 with England at Wembley back in March. 

They’ve got quality throughout their squad and although there are some concerns about them defensively, that shouldn’t be too much of a factor against Slovakia. Slovakia are in good form, winning their last two matches 4-0, but those games have come against San Marino and Wales, so I’m not sure how much weight we can give to those results. 

They could find life tough at Euro 2024, and I think Tedesco’s men will get off to a winning start here. They’ve just got so much attacking quality, although I think this will be an open and entertaining encounter. 

BTTS 

As I’ve just touched upon, there are some concerns regarding Belgium’s defence. The experienced Thomas Meunier went off in that friendly against Luxembourg and Jan Vertonghen and Arthur Theate are also both going to miss this opening game. It means Axel Witsel, Wout Faes and Maxim De Cuyper may start as a makeshift back three, with Jeremy Doku playing on the left hand side of midfield. 

I don’t think that offers much defensive security and we have seen that Slovakia can score goals throughout qualifying. I think this might be a really high-scoring affair, and am more than happy to back both teams to get on the scoresheet.

Romelu Lukaku and Leandro Trossard to score

Tedesco looks likely to set his team up in a 3-4-2-1 system, with attacking wing-backs in the form of Doku and Timothy Castagne. This system, although a little shaky at the back, gives the key attacking players freedom to roam. That front three will be comprised of Kevin De Bruyne, Leandro Trossard and Romelu Lukaku, with the two creative midfielders playing in number ten roles behind the goalscoring sensation.

Lukaku needs no introduction really. He has scored a remarkable 85 goals in 115 games for his country, and is one of the finest strikers on the planet. Meanwhile, Troassard is flourishing in this number 10 role, and has scored in each of his last two games. Interestingly, he also took a penalty in the absence of Lukaku against Montenegro, but should get plenty of open play chances here.
