Barca, for all the praise they’ve garnered under Xavi, displayed some defensive vulnerabilities against Shakhtar Donetsk in their midweek Champions League clash, indicating the likes of Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jr could take advantage when the sides meet.

In addition, Barca could be lacking firepower themselves, as doubts continue to surround the fitness of Robert Lewandowski, who is attempting to recover from an ankle injury.

The England international has been a revelation for Madrid since his big-money move from Borussia Dortmund over the summer, netting eight times in nine games in the league, with a further three already in the Champions League.

Of those 11 goals, an incredible eight of them have either been equalisers, given Madrid the lead or stood as the eventual winning goal, suggesting that he’s the man for the big occasion.

There’s no doubting that the former Birmingham City midfielder will want to leave his mark on his El Clasico debut, and as I’ve alluded to above, I think he can take advantage of any defensive frailties that Barcelona have.

The El Clasico and cards seemingly go hand-in-hand.

Xavi’s side have averaged around 2.40 cards per game this season, and Gavi is the leading culprit, picking up four cards so far this term.

Barca have committed more fouls and received more yellow cards than Madrid across their 10 La Liga matches, and could have their hands full trying to stop the likes of Bellingham, Rodygo and Vinicius Jr.
