Barcelona vs Getafe Betting Tips:

  • Back Both Teams to Score & Robert Lewandowski to Score Anytime @ 15/8
  • Back Over 1.5 Second Half Goals @ 4/5

After a Champions League trip to Naples, Barcelona are back in domestic action on Saturday with Getafe the latest visitors to the Estadi Olimpic which hasn’t been the happiest of temporary homes.

Villarreal won 5-3 here in January. Second bottom Granada were Barca’s most recent visitors and left with a 3-3 draw. The goals have been flowing at both ends of the pitch, but that certainly hasn’t been the case in recent meetings of Barcelona and Getafe.

Those have been incredibly tight with Getafe often effectively parking the bus and slowing the game down, much to the ire of Barcelona boss Xavi. There has been just one goal scored in total across the last four meetings with three goalless draws including the reverse fixture on the opening day of this season.

That was a scrappy affair which ended with both sides playing with ten men and punters will need to weigh up whether this match will follow a similar pattern to the recent meetings or follow the trend of recent Barca matches which have been much more open.

The Catalans picked up a decent result against Napoli on Tuesday, although they may have left with a sense that it could have been better.

For more than an hour, Barcelona controlled the game in a way they rarely have in recent months, not looking troubled defensively and taking the lead through the in-form Robert Lewandowski. However, Napoli did come back into it in the latter stages, equalising through Victor Osimhen to leave the tie finely poised.

Barcelona will have had less than 72 hours recovery time heading into this match which isn’t ideal, but they do have a few players fit again after injuries which should help with that. They also don’t play again for eight days after this so Xavi will back his side to still make it four wins from five in La Liga.

Getafe do come with a certain reputation when it comes to what many dub as “anti-football”, The stats do largely back that up with the Madrid based side having picked up more yellow and red cards than any other team in La Liga this term, while their pass completion stats are the lowest.

However, it’s a bit unfair to suggest that all they do is kick people and play balls long. They’ve some technically sound footballers such as midfielder Luis Milla, while they’ve carried a greater goal threat than in recent years with Mason Greenwood and Borja Mayoral two of the standout attacking players in the division.

Getafe’s form has been a bit patchy of late and they’ve not won back-to-back games yet in 2024, but they are unbeaten in three heading into this match. That run includes good away draws against Real Betis and Villarreal, either side of a 3-2 win over Celta Vigo at the Coliseum.

They can also take confidence from being the only visiting team to deny Atlético Madrid three home points this season, after a 3-3 draw at the Estadio Metropolitano in December.

Team News:

Barcelona are still missing Alejandro Balde, Gavi and Marcos Alonso to injury while the match may also come too soon for Ferran Torres.

Overall though, Xavi has more options available to him than has been the case in recent league games. Joao Felix and Raphinha have both regained fitness and both featured off the bench in Italy. There’s a good chance the Barca boss will look to freshen up his attack here as a result and potentially rest 16-year-old Lamine Yamal who has played a lot of football of late.

Fellow teenager Pau Cubarsi may come into the defence, but we’re unlikely to see more than a few changes to the team that drew in Naples with a couple of free midweeks ahead that should enable Barcelona’s key players to catch their breath.

Long-term absentee Mauro Arambarri may be the only player that Getafe are missing for this game. They did have a doubt over wide midfielder Jordi Martin this week but he looks set to be fit with the visitors likely to line up in their usual 4-4-2 with Borja Mayoral and Jaime Mata up top while operating Mason Greenwood is being used wide on the right.

Barcelona vs Getafe Odds:

Barcelona head into the game as the 2/5 favourites with the Draw available at 4/1 while Getafe are priced at 13/2.

This stadium has been the setting for some very high scoring games of late and you can back Both Teams to Score at 4/5 here. Both Teams to Score two or More Goals is priced at 9/2, a bet that has landed in four of Barca’s last eight matches in all competitions.

Alternatively, you could go the other way and place weight on the recent head-to-head record by backing what would be a fourth 0-0 draw in five meetings at long odds of 14/1.

There might not be too many takers on that judging by Barcelona’s current defensive record. They do at least have perhaps the form striker in La Liga and you can back Lewandowski to score first at 11/4 and score anytime at 4/5 in this match, while he’s priced at 9/2 to score two or more.

If you see the bad blood from the reverse fixture spilling over into this one, you can back Over 57.5 Booking Points at 8/11 while Getafe are priced at 8/13 to be the Team with the Most Booking Points.

Bet 1 - Both Teams to Score & Robert Lewandowski to Score Anytime @ 15/8

A lot has changed since the last meeting in August, particularly at Barcelona, who approached this season having come close to smashing all kinds of defensive records last term. They’ve been much less convincing at the back this season though and head into the weekend with the joint worst defensive record in the top half, along with Getafe.

Therefore, another low-scoring meeting between this pair looks relatively unlikely. Both teams have scored in nine of Barca’s last ten fixtures in all competitions and in each of Getafe’s last three games.

Given that, I’m using the #PickYourPunt builder to back Both Teams to Score and Robert Lewandowski to Score Anytime at 15/8 here with the Polish striker looking clinical right now, netting at least once in each of his last four matches.

Bet 2 - Over 1.5 Second Half Goals @ 4/5

If recent Barca matches are anything to go by, we perhaps shouldn’t expect this game to burst into life from the first whistle, but there have been loads of goals in the Second Half of their games this season.

This one may also get more stretched as players start to tire. Getafe will fancy they can cause problems on the counter-attack, with the pace of Greenwood likely to prove very useful in that situation, while Barcelona will have some good attacking options to bring off the bench.

I’m going with Over 1.5 Second Half Goals at 4/5, a bet that has landed in all of Barca’s last four games.
