Atletico Madrid vs Real Sociedad Prediction: Simeone’s side can shut out Sociedad

The La Liga title may have gone for Atletico Madrid but Diego Simeone’s men will want to secure third spot, with just four games of the season remaining. Real Sociedad are the latest side to visit the Estadio Metropolitano (20:00, live on Premier Sports 2), with the visitors still in with a chance of qualifying for Europe.

Atletico will be without their leading goalscorer, Julian Alvarez, who is suspended having reached the yellow card limit. 

Alexander Sorloth is expected to replace Alvarez up top, while the home team will make a late fitness check on Rodrigo Riquelme. 

The visitors have doubts over defender Igor Zubeldia and Icelandic forward Orri Oskarsson, who has been struggling with a hamstring injury. 

Sociedad will again be without midfielder Arsen Zakharyan, who has been sidelined since February due to a thigh issue.

The hosts have lost only one home league game this season, which was against leaders Barcelona, so it's no surprise to see them odds-on to collect another win. 

Atletico can be backed at 4/6 to beat Real Sociedad, who are 4/1 to pick up their sixth away win of the season, while the draw is available at 3/1.

A combination of Atletico's stubborn backline and Sociedad's struggles in front of goal, should make this a relatively comfortable Saturday evening for the home side. 

Simeone's team have kept clean sheets in their last two games, including a 3-0 win over eighth-placed Rayo Vallecano in their most recent home fixture. 

Sociedad head to the capital having failed to score in three of their last four games, collecting just two points from that run of fixtures. 

The Basque outfit have scored one or no goals in their last six meetings with Saturday's opponents and you have to go back to 2013 for their last victory at Atletico.

Alexander Sorloth - First Goalscorer @ 3/1

With 15-goal striker Alvarez missing, the hosts will be looking to Alexander Sorloth to deliver in front of goal. 

The Norwegian international forward has 13 league goals himself this season and goes into Saturday's matchup in a confident mood. 

Sorloth has found the net in Atletico's last two home matches, including the opener in his side's 3-0 success over Vallecano. 

Ironically, the former Crystal Palace man scored for Sociedad at the Metropolitano in a 2-1 defeat for the visitors in May 2023.
