Atletico Madrid vs Mallorca Prediction: Simeone’s side to extend Wanda-ful home record

Atletico Madrid welcome a familiar face to the Spanish capital on Saturday evening (20:00), as former manager Javier Aguirre takes his Mallorca side to the Wanda Metropolitano.

Aguirre was in charge of Atletico between 2006-2009 but the Mexican's loyalties now lie with Mallorca, who are struggling after winning just once in La Liga this season.

Diego Simeone's side are in no such bother, with nine wins from 12 sparking hopes of a third league title under the Argentinian.

Atletico Madrid vs Mallorca Betting Tips:

  • Atletico Madrid to win and over 2.5 goals @ 5/4
  • Abdon Prats to score anytime @ 3/1

Team News

Memphis Depay has been out injured since the Madrid derby on September 24th, but the Dutch forward was pictured in training earlier this week.

Diego Simeone must decide whether to rest a couple of stars for Tuesday's crunch Champions League clash at Feyenoord, but with Los Colchoneros chasing domestic as well as European glory, the likes of Antoine Griezmann and Alvara Morata are still expected to start.

Mallorca's plans for Saturday suffered a significant blow last week as talismanic forward Vedat Muriqi limped off in Kosovo's 1-0 win over Israel. The 29-year-old subsequently missed his country's next two games and is expected to be out for the rest of the calendar year, with Abdon Prats set to deputise in the Mallorca attack.

Match Odds

Atletico's reputation precedes them here, with six wins out of six at the Wanda Metropolitano marking them as 4/11 favourites. Mallorca are 8/1 to win and break that run in spectacular fashion, with a draw priced at 18/5.

There have been four goals or more in five of Atletico's 12 La Liga games, and it's 5/2 for over 3.5 goals on Saturday.

Atletico Madrid to win and over 2.5 goals @ 5/4

Atletico's immaculate home record has seen them score 16 goals in La Liga this term, but they've not exactly been watertight at the back, conceding seven goals and failing to keep a clean sheet. Atletico are also the only side to see over 2.5 goals in all of their home games.

Mallorca, meanwhile, have seen that bet land in three of their seven away games, with two of them being exciting 5-3 and 3-2 defeats to Girona and Granada, respectively. Only Almeria (17), Granada and Valencia (both 15) have conceded more on their travels than Los Piratas, but despite sitting in 17th, only five clubs have scored more away goals.

That should lend itself to an exciting game in Madrid, but I fully expect Atletico to maintain their winning run at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Abdon Prats to score anytime @ 3/1

With Muriqi out injured, a huge goalscoring burden will be placed on the shoulders of Prats, who has scored the same number of league goals (four) as the Kosovo international despite missing out on three games and starting just five times.

The level of opposition Prats has scored against is impressive, too - three of them came versus Barcelona (one) and league leaders Girona (two).

No other Mallorca player has scored more than once in La Liga this season, so expect Prats, who has scored nine of his last 11 goals away from home - including the two at Girona - to be fed the ball at every opportunity.

The 30-year-old also scored a hat-trick on his last start, albeit against lower-level opposition in Boiro in the Copa del Rey.

Atletico's defence has been shaky at home, so Prats can certainly apply some further pressure to their backline.
