Atletico Madrid vs Botafogo Bet Builder Tips: 66/1 for dirty encounter

Group B of the Club World Cup reaches its conclusion tonight and Botafogo are looking to top the group as they face another European giant in Atletico Madrid (20:00, DAZN). Having shocked PSG with a 1-0 triumph, the Brazilians need just a point to qualify in pole position and set up a last 16 clash with Group A’s runners-up.

Alexander Sorloth to score

Atletico Madrid are fortunate that the Club World Cup groups are settled on head-to-head record rather than goal difference, after they were handed a 4-0 hammering by PSG on matchday one. That means that all they have to do is beat Botafogo to leapfrog them and progress to the knockout stages, while the Brazilians just need a draw. 

I was going to back Atletico to get the job done, but I’ve been so impressed with Botafogo in this competition that I don’t feel comfortable backing them to lose. Instead, I will back Atleti striker Alexander Sorloth to find the net at any time. Given the game state, we can expect Botafogo to sit deep, while the Spaniards pile on the pressure in search of the vital win.

Sorloth is a key attacker for Diego Simeone’s team, and he’s scored 24 goals in 52 appearances this term. He’s not yet found the net at this tournament, but will likely start again as Atleti try and break down the Fogo defence. Simeone's side created an xG of 3.26 in the 3-1 win over Seattle Sounders, and with that level of chance creation again, Sorloth should be able to find the net.

Rodrigo De Paul, Alexander Barboza, Luis Eduardo Soares da Silva and Gregore to get booked

Now we are obviously going big with this Bet Builder, but with good reason. I can see this being one of the feistiest games of the entire Club World Cup. We’ve got Atleti, notoriously one of the most aggressive and well-drilled sides Europe has to offer, with Simeone’s Argentinian passion often spilling over onto the pitch, coming up against a Botafogo side looking to secure the one point they need to progress. 

I think we will see plenty of yellow cards on the night so I’ve picked out four likely candidates to find themselves in the referees notebook. Botafogo are going to make plenty of tactical fouls in an attempt to slow the game down and disrupt the flow of their opponent's attack. I’ve gone for three of their defensive players in the form of Alexander Barboza, Luis Eduardo Soares da Silva and Gregore.

Gregore is the holding midfielder that picked up a yellow last time out to make it nine in 26 appearances this season, while his teammate Alexander Barboza is a chaotic and aggressive centre-back with nine yellows and one red in just 19 outings. 

I’m more than happy to back both of them to get booked, along with left-back Luis Eduardo Soares da Silva - also known as Cuiabano. He’s got eight yellows and one red in 24 apps, also scoring twice during that time. He’s all-action, and up against this elite attack, is going to have to put some tackles in. To round off our Bet Builder, I’ve also picked out Atleti’s Rodrigo De Paul to join them in the book.

He got 10 yellows in 53 appearances in their midfield, which isn’t as bad as some of the Brazilians, but he is Atleti’s enforcer and may have to stick up for his teammates if things spill over. I like these four to get booked, taking our Bet Builder to a massive 66/1.
