Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund have both endured difficult 2023/24 campaigns in their respective domestic leagues, but the Champions League offers one the chance to turn an average season into a special one. The sides meet this Wednesday (KO, 20:00) in the first leg of their quarter-final tie at Metropolitano Stadium, with the return leg taking place next Tuesday at Signul Iduna Park.

Ahead of this clash, which is live in the UK on TNT Sports 2, we have delivered our Atletico Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund bet builder tips, coming up with a 7/1 treble using Betfred's #PickYourPunt feature.

Antoine Griezmann to score anytime

Atletico's talisman for pretty much the entirety of his eight seasons at the club, it was Antoine Griezmann who came up clutch in the round of 16 against Inter Milan, scoring an equaliser in the second leg just minutes after Federico Dimarco had put the Italian giants two-nil up on aggregate.

That was the France international's 19th goal of the season for Los Colchoneros, with six of them coming in the Champions League. At the time of writing, Griezmann is tied with Kylian Mbappe (PSG), Harry Kane (Bayern Munich) and Erling Haaland (Manchester City) at the top of the competition's goalscoring charts.

The 33-year-old has scored in all four of his home matches in the Champions League this season, and you wouldn't bet against him making it five in a row on Wednesday against a club he has scored against twice in his career - for Atletico when these sides last met in November 2018, and for Barcelona a year later in his most recent appearance against the Germans.

I'd expect Griezmann to play the majority, if not all, of the first leg, especially given his side have not played since April 1, which should give him ample time on the field to bag the goal we need for the first part of our treble.

Alvaro Morata 2+ fouls

Griezmann's striker partner, Alvaro Morata, is no stranger to a goal in the competition either - the former Chelsea forward is only one shy (five) of the Frenchman's total, but it's in the fouls department where he might bring us some joy against Dortmund.

Morata has committed 13 fouls across eight appearances in the 23/24 Champions League campaign so far, which averages out at 1.6 fouls per game.

His last three starts in the competition, against Inter (home and away) and Feyenoord, saw him make two fouls in each, and he's expected to start in attack on Wednesday over Memphis Depay, whose participation in the match is under threat after missing training on Saturday.

Atletico are usually aggressive and front-footed at home, and Morata will be looking to put himself about and unsettle the Dortmund defence.

The 31-year-old was only a 66th-minute substitute in Atletico's last match, a 2-1 win at Villarreal, but he still managed to commit an incredible four fouls.

Emre Can to be carded

Emre Can has only committed seven fouls across his six Champions League outings this term but, remarkably, the former Liverpool midfielder has been booked three times.

The Dortmund captain will be expected to lead the charge against an aggressive Atleti outfit who will look to swarm their opponents at times.

The 30-year-old's experience will be crucial, and it could be that a tactical foul or a spot of timewasting is required in order to grind out a positive result in Madrid.

Can committed three fouls in Dortmund's last away game in the competition, a 1-1 draw at PSV.

Atletico Madrid are favourites for this game with odds of 4/5 to take the win. That gives them an implied win probability of 58%, while you can back the visitors at 18/5 to take a lead back to Germany. The draw is available at 13/5, BTTS - Yes is 4/5 and over 2.5 goals is 10/11.

The winner of this two-legged tie will progress to the semi-finals, where they will meet either Paris Saint-Germain or Barcelona.
