Arsenal Women vs Barcelona Women Prediction: Barca target glory

We’ve got a belting Champions League final coming our way as the women take centre stage on Saturday (17:00, TNT Sports 1). Arsenal face Barcelona at the Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon looking to win their first Champions League title since 2007, while Barcelona are hoping to make it three in a row.
Below you can find my Arsenal Women vs Barcelona Women predictions as we look ahead to the biggest game the domestic women’s game has to offer.
Arsenal Women vs Barcelona Women Betting Tips
Team News
Renee Slegers has done a terrific job with Arsenal since taking charge earlier in the campaign. The main talking point for this game will likely be centred around a midfielder who played for Barcelona in five UCL finals – Mariona Caldentey. She’s been quite the capture for the Gunners, given she joined on a free and was voted player of the season in the Women's Super League in her debut year.
She will start in midfield with Kim Little, white Alessia Russo should lead the line once again. Chloe Kelly, Beth Mead and Caitlin Foord will compete for the wide spots. Stina Blackstenius may have to settle for a spot on the bench, while Leah Williamson looks set to be joined by the versatile Stephanie Catley at the heart of the defence.
Arsenal Women vs Barcelona Women Stats
- Barcelona have won the last two Champions Leagues
- They scored 128 goals in their domestic season
- Arsenal haven't won the Champions League since 2007
For Barcelona, only Kika Nazareth is a long-term absentee and the club have just won their tenth Liga F title in a row. Aitana Bonmati, Patricia Guijarro and the top class Alexia Putellas will start as the midfield trio, with Claudia Pina, Ewa Pajor and Caroline Graham Hansen set to start as the front three.
There’s a lot of goals and a lot of talent in this settled team, as they look to continue their dominance.
Arsenal Women vs Barcelona Women Odds
Arsenal are the rank outsiders for this one, priced at 9/1 to take the win in 90 minutes, while Barcelona can be backed at 1/4 to win the match in 90 minutes. A draw is 9/2, over 2.5 goals is 2/5 and BTTS is 4/5 for the final in Lisbon.
Barcelona to win and BTTS @ 6/4
Looking at the odds, there really should only be one winner here. Arsenal did phenomenally well to make it past Lyon with a stunning 4-1 away win in the semi-finals, while they also came from two goals down to beat Real Madrid in the quarters. It’s been quite the journey to get to this stage, and many would suggest that this is their year given what they have been through to reach Lisbon. But I’m not buying it.
I’m taking the emotion out of this final and looked at it on paper. Barcelona are the best team on the planet and have continued to perform at an elite level while others have floundered. They are on track to win their third Champions League title in a row, while they’ve reached the final in each of the past five seasons.
They are a winning machine, and the price from Betfred suggests they should get the job done here, having won 28 games in Liga F out of 30, scoring 128 goals in the process. I’ll back Arsenal to get on the scoresheet given their attacking talent as well, but Barca should crown themselves champions of Europe once again.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
Ewa Pajor to score anytime @ 4/5
The Polish striker was a phenomenon for Wolfsburg and she’s now continued that goalscoring form for Barcelona after joining last summer. In her debut campaign she’s scored 41 goals in 43 appearances, with seven of those strikes coming in this competition.
She’s a short price, but she’s also by far the most likely goalscorer in this final. I’m also expecting there to be several goals from a Barca point of view, so this is a fairly safe selection.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
