Arsenal suffered their first defeat of the 2024/25 season on Saturday, losing 2-0 at AFC Bournemouth, so Mikel Arteta will be desperate to see his side return to winning ways in the Uefa Champions League on Tuesday (20:00, Amazon Prime Video) when Ukrainian outfit Shakhtar Donetsk arrive at the Emirates Stadium.

Ahead of this league phase game in north London, I have delivered my Arsenal vs Shakhtar Donetsk bet builder tips below, offering up a 13/2 shot comprised of four selections.

Both Teams to Score - No

Arsenal have become known as a defensively diligent side under Arteta, conceding five fewer Premier League goals than champions Manchester City last season.

The Gunners have only kept one clean sheet in their last six games, two of which have seen them reduced to 10 men in the first half, but they had recorded four shutouts in their first five matches of the campaign, including in a goalless Champions League draw away to Atalanta in September.

Their most recent European contest, meanwhile, saw them hold off Paris Saint-Germain in a 2-0 win at the Emirates, so they will be targeting a hat-trick of Champions League clean sheets when Shakhtar come to town.

As long as they keep all 11 players on the field, Arsenal have a good chance of preventing the visitors, who blanked in their first two Champions League games against Bologna (0-0) and Atalanta (0-3), from breaching their defence on Tuesday.

Anytime Goalscorer - Gabriel Jesus (ARS)

After an encouraging first season at Arsenal, where he scored 11 times in 26 Premier League appearances, Gabriel Jesus' Gunners career has gone downhill. In 2023/24, he managed only eight goals in all competitions - just four in the English top flight.

The 27-year-old has also yet to turn things around this term, failing to find the net in eight outings so far, although he has only made three starts.

Gabriel Jesus came off the bench for the last 11 minutes of Saturday's defeat at the Vitality Stadium but with the games coming thick and fast, including Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday, Arteta may look to rest one or two of his key attackers and hand a start to the Brazilian.

The former Manchester City striker's record in Europe last season was actually pretty impressive as he struck four times in eight Champions League matches, and at home to Shakhtar, he should be targeting his first goal of the current campaign.

Certainly, if he does start, I think he has a great chance of breaking his barren run against a side that conceded three strikes at home in their last European outing in Bergamo.

1+ Player Shots - Gabriel Magalhaes (ARS)

I'm also backing Arsenal centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes to take at least one shot on Tuesday, despite the Brazil international failing to register a shot in the competition this term.

The 26-year-old averaged 0.5 shots per game in the Champions League last season and is averaging 1.5 shots per game in the 2024/25 Premier League; in fact, Arsenal's 2-0 win over Aston Villa on August 24 is the only league match in which he has failed to have an effort, and across his last four outings he has recorded nine shots.

As I will get into in a moment, I think there could be a lot of set-piece opportunities for the Gunners to cash in on at the Emirates, and Gabriel will be the chief target for those delivering balls into the box.

Team Corners (First Half) - Arsenal Over 3.5

This bet didn't land in either of Arsenal's first two Champions League games, but Atalanta away and PSG at home are, on paper, much tougher assignments than Shakhtar at the Emirates, so I'm confident Arteta's side will be more dominant from the off here.

Over 3.5 first-half Arsenal corners has won in three of the Gunners' first four home league matches - against Wolves, Leicester City and Southampton, all lower-ranked teams - as well as in their 5-1 Carabao Cup thrashing of League 1 Bolton Wanderers.

I'm expecting a response from the north Londoners after Saturday's defeat and they should be looking to get this game won as early as possible to try and make changes later on in proceedings with a view to Sunday's clash with Liverpool.

Shakhtar conceded five first-half corners in their goalless draw with Bologna in Italy and could be under the cosh again in England on Tuesday.
