Nigeria vs Tanzania Prediction: Super Eagles to find it super easy in Fes

Three-time champions Nigeria kick off their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign on Tuesday when they meet Tanzania in Fes (18:30 local, 17:30 GMT, live on 4seven and Channel 4 Sport YouTube).
Eric Chelle’s side begin as odds-on favourites to win Group C and are 10/1 to lift a fourth crown come January 18. Read on for my Nigeria vs Tanzania predictions, full team news and Betfred’s latest match odds.

Team News
Chelle ought to name a side full of star talent, including Fulham trio Calvin Bassey, Alex Iwobi and Samuel Chukwueze.
Brentford’s Frank Onyeka is expected to start as part of a midfield three with Iwobi and Beskitas’ Wilfred Ndidi.
The presence of Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen in the forward line is likely to worry Tanzania boss Hemed Morocco.
For his part, Morocco will likely include Rochdale’s Tarryn Allarakhia on the wing, with veteran striker Mbwana Samatta set to be given the nod ahead of AaB Alborg’s Kelvin John as the lone front man.
Nigeria vs Tanzania Predicted Lineups
- Nigeria: Nwabali; Osayi-Samuel, Ajayi, Bassey, Sanusi; Iwobi, Ndidi, Onyeka; Chukwueze, Osimhen, Lookman
- Tanzania: Suleiman; Mwaikenda, Mwamnyeto, Hamad, Msindo; Miroshi, Salum; M’Mwomba, Abraham, Allarakhia; Samatta
Tanzania are a lengthy 7/1 shot to pick up their first-ever Afcon finals win against 4/9 Nigeria. That makes a Super Eagles victory an implied 69.2% probability.
The draw is available at 3/1, while Nigeria are 11/8 to overcome a one-goal handicap.
Osimhen is 12/5 favourite to open the scoring, with Cyriel Dessers 7/2 and Sevilla’s Akor Adams 4/1.
Nigeria vs Tanzania Stats
- Nigeria have won 5 and drawn 3 of 8 previous meetings, scoring 11 to 3 in the process
- Tanzania have never won in 3 previous visits to Afcon (D3, L6)
- Nigeria have kept clean sheets in the last 4 matches against Tanzania, with the Taifa Stars’ last goal in their meetings coming back in 1980
Handicap +1: Nigeria -1 @ 11/8
Looking at the vast difference in squad strength, there ought to be only one result here.
We know from previous Afcons that things don’t always go for the favourites, but Nigeria are stacked with quality and should eventually see off the Taifa Stars no matter how well set up they are.
Morocco has a real job on his hands to put a game-plan together which would see the likes of Ndidi, Iwobi, Osimhen and Lookman starved of possession and chances.
So I fully expect the Super Eagles to win by at least two goals, making the 11/8 handicap bet at an implied 42.1% chance very appealing.

Result & BTTS: Nigeria & No @ 21/20
Given the need to be obdurate and resilient first and foremost, it’s hard to see Tanzania getting too many chances to break down a more-than-capable Nigerian back line.
A side without a win in six attempts in 2025, and who have scored in only two of those games, shouldn’t be too much for the Super Eagles to deal with.
So I’m happy to also tip Nigeria to keep a clean sheet in victory at 21/20.
