Team News
Anass Salah-Eddine will complete an international journey of some curiosity by making his major tournament debut for Morocco just two months after his allegiance switch from the Netherlands was confirmed.
He will take the right-back slot in the absence of Achraf Hakimi, who sprained his ankle playing for Paris Saint-Germain last month. The Atlas Lions’ skipper should be fit soon enough to take part in the tournament, but he misses the opener.
Comoros reached the Afcon finals with a fairly settled side, with seven of their squad playing a part in all six qualifiers.
However, Warmed Omari played all 540 minutes of the prelims but now finds himself sidelined with an ankle injury which has ruled him out of the entire tournament.
Morocco vs Comoros Predicted Lineups
- Morocco: Bounou; Salah-Eddine, Saiss, Yamiq, Mazraoui; El Aynaoui, Amrabat, Ounahi; En-Nesyri, Diaz
- Comoros: Anzimati Aboudou; Bakari, Toibibou, Mdahoma; Boura, Mchangama, Bourhane, Ben Djaloud; Zaydou; Selemani, Said
There are no surprises forecast here. Morocco are 1/8 to get their campaign off to a flyer, with Comoros 16/1 to cause an upset against the side 100 places above them in the Fifa World Rankings.
The draw is an 11/2 shot, with the hosts 8/11 to Score in Both Halves. That’s an implied probability of 57.9%.
Morocco vs Comoros Stats
- This is only Comoros’ second participation in the Afcon finals, but they did qualify from the group on their debut in 2021
- Morocco are the highest-ranked African nation in the world, at number 11 in the Fifa standings
- Brahim Diaz scored 7 goals in just 4 qualifying fixtures (3 starts) at a rate of one every 33 minutes
Handicap +3: Tie @ 7/2
The destination of the two points shouldn’t even be a question here. It will simply be down to the margin of victory for Morocco.
There’s an argument that Comoros will put in their best performance of the entire group stage in the opener due to the adrenaline and the fact they will be facing a 68,000 crowd almost entirely barracking for their opponents.
But even that shouldn’t stop Morocco recording the win, and they should come out of it unscathed with a little still in the tank.
The three-goal margin looks about right, with the 7/2 Betfred are offering appearing punter-friendly at an implied 22.2% chance.

Brahim Diaz Anytime Goalscorer @ 5/4
Anyone who has scored every 33 minutes in qualifying and is priced at odds-against to net has to be backed.
While he will face tougher opponents than Lesotho, who he bagged a hat-trick against, the Real Madrid man should still get plenty of opportunities against Comoros.
While he hasn’t scored yet for his club side this season, the Afcon should bring him a great chance to get his form going in front of goal.
