Aston Villa vs Bologna (20:00) - Under 2.5 goals @ 8/11
Aston Villa have been poor so far this season, and they are yet to win in the Premier League - drawing three and losing two of their five fixtures so far. Also out of the Carabao Cup, they will be hoping that the start of their European adventure can bring some relief, but I’m not confident in backing them to win.
Instead, I will back their goalscoring struggles to continue against Bologna. Villa have scored just one league goal so far this term, and that came from Matty Cash last time out at Sunderland. Unai Emery has a big job on his hands this season, three of their last four Bologna matches have ended 1-0 and this was a winner when the two teams met last season as Villa won 2-0. Should be another low-scoring fixture.
Stuttgart (H) to beat Celta Vigo (20:00) @ 5/6
Stuttgart have been hit and miss in the Bundesliga so far, winning two and drawing two of their league fixtures in 2025/26. They host Celta Vigo on Thursday, who are the draw specialists of La Liga, drawing five and losing once in the top flight so far this term.
Stuttgart won the DFB-Pokal last term to qualify for this competition having finished ninth, while Celta finished seventh in Spain - so I think leaning towards the home side is the way to go here. Sebastian Hoeness is going to have to rely on a strong home record if Stuttgart are to succeed in Europe this term, so I’ll back them to get off to a good start here against a team that just can’t win right now.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
Rangers (H) to beat Racing Genk (20:00) @ 6/4
Uh oh. Backing Russell Martin’s Rangers to win a game of football feels like a bit of a risk right now, but they did find three points over Hibernian last time out. I don’t think it’s a match made in heaven in truth, but European nights are special at Ibrox, and this is a kind fixture on paper.
Racing Genk have been woeful in 2025/26 so far, and currently sit 14th out of 16 in the Belgian Pro League. They won just twice in eight league matches and have lost their last two on the bounce. They reached this stage by beating Lech Poznan in the play-off, but I think they are in for a pretty brutal league phase - which should see them somewhere near the bottom of the table. Surely even Rangers can find a home win against this struggling Genk outfit.
Lyon (A) to beat FC Utrecht (20:00) @ 23/20
Lyon have made a strong start to their Ligue 1 campaign, winning four and losing once, with that sole defeat at Rennes coming late on after Tyler Morton was sent off with the visitors leading 1-0.
They’re a force to be reckoned with this term and should be able to continue their good form in the Europa League as they face Utrecht. The Dutch outfit have won three and lost three so far this season, they’ve lost their last two without scoring and they edged past 10-man HSK Zrinjski Mostar to reach this stage. Should be a comfortable away win.
Lille (H) to beat SK Brann (20:00) @ 4/9
Let’s back another French outfit to round off our accumulator, as Lille host Norwegian outfit SK Brann. Brann are already 21 matches into their season, and sit third, six points behind league leaders Bodo/Glimt. They beat AEK Larnaca 6-1 in the play-off and are unbeaten in their last six outings, but Lille present a massive step-up on their usual opposition.
Lille lost 3-0 in their last fixture to Lens, but that was their first loss of the season, and they previously had an eye-catching 7-1 win at Lorient. With a strong squad, they should be able to get past Brann with relatively little fuss.
