Finland (H) to Win to Nil vs Malta (17:00) @ 4/6

Finland close out their qualification campaign on Friday with a home game against Malta, whom they beat 1-0 in March’s reverse fixture in Ta’ Qali.

With Poland, who have a game in hand on Huuhkajat, three points clear in second with a much superior goal difference, Finland’s chances of a top-two finish are all but over, and third place is pretty much guaranteed.

Still, Jacob Friis will be hoping his side can record a third consecutive home win to end Group G on a high note.

Finland have beaten both Poland and Lithuania by a 2-1 scoreline at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium, and Malta, with just two points and one goal to their name from six matches, should present fewer problems on Friday, so a win and clean sheet is in sight for the hosts.

Football Odds

Total Goals - Under 2.5 in Poland vs the Netherlands (19:45, Amazon Prime Video) @ 6/5

Poland and the Netherlands played out a 1-1 draw at De Kuip in Rotterdam on September 4, and I’m predicting another low-scoring game between them at PGE Narodowy in Warsaw.

The Dutch have won their other five qualifiers and, given their much superior goal difference, only need to draw on Friday to clinch top spot in Group G, so Ronald Koeman’s side don’t need to go hell for leather here.

Poland know that a win here would see them draw level on points with the Dutch, but with the Oranje hosting Lithuania in Amsterdam next Monday, their chances of finishing top of the pile are small anyway, so don’t expect the Poles to be too adventurous, preferring to gain a positive result in their usual manner.

Four of Poland’s six qualifiers have finished with two or fewer goals, including two of their three on home soil, and if you include friendlies, six of their last eight (home or away) have gone under 2.5.

The Netherlands have racked up some high-scoring wins recently over Lithuania (2-3), Malta (0-4) and Finland (4-0), but they only beat Finland 2-0 in Helsinki on June 7, and were held to a 1-1 draw by Poland in September’s reverse fixture.

Germany (A) -2 Handicap vs Luxembourg (19:45, Amazon Prime Video) @ 7/10

Germany are much less certain to top their group as, after four games, they are level on nine points with Slovakia, although they boast a +5 goal difference compared to their Group A rival’s +3.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side lost their opening match away to Slovakia (2-0) but have recovered well, beating Northern Ireland (3-1) and Luxembourg (4-0) back-to-back at home before winning 1-0 against the former in Belfast last time out.

With Slovakia to visit the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig next Monday, Nagelsmann will be desperate to see his team win at the Stade de Luxembourg on Friday to avoid having to pick up all three points on matchday six.

Given Luxembourg have lost all four games so far, shipping 10 goals and scoring just once, the Germans should be confident of a comfortable win this week.

Germany won 4-0 in last month’s reverse fixture with Luxembourg, restricting the Red Lions to a single shot, although the visitors were handicapped by the 20th-minute dismissal of Dirk Carlson.

Still, Luxembourg have failed to win any of their last seven internationals (L6, D1) and have blanked in five of their last six.

If they get an early goal, I fancy Germany to record a big win here.

Both Teams To Score - Yes in Slovakia vs Northern Ireland (19:45, BBC iPlayer) @ 6/5

With Germany expected to take care of business in Luxembourg, the real big game of the night in Group A comes from Kosicka futbalova arena in Kosice, where Slovakia entertain Northern Ireland.

Slovakia have won three of their four qualifiers so far, including that famous victory over Germany on September 4, keeping clean sheets in all three.

However, they were beaten 2-0 by Northern Ireland in Belfast on October 10, and another defeat to Michael O’Neill’s side on Friday would see them overtaken in second place.

Defeats at home (0-1) and away (3-1) to Germany have kept Northern Ireland out of the top two, but they have taken encouragement from both losses, particularly from the Cologne reverse, as they managed to get on the scoresheet at RheinEnergieStadion.

This could be a straight shootout for second place, so expect both sides to be up for it.

Northern Ireland need to win, so they’ll be going all out for at least one goal, which should lead to an entertaining contest in Kosice. I’ll back both teams to score at a slightly generous 6/5.

Both Teams To Score - Yes in Paysandu vs Amazonas (23:00) @ 5/6

Paysandu’s relegation from Brazil’s Serie B has already been confirmed, as, with just two rounds of fixtures remaining, they are 13 points adrift of 16th-place Athletic Club, who occupy the final survival slot.

So, Paysandu can afford to play an expansive game against Amazonas on Friday, safe in the knowledge that nothing is riding on it either way, as they are guaranteed to finish 20th.

Amazonas, meanwhile, are 18th, five points behind Athletic Club and 17th-placed Ferroviaria. Quite simply, they have to win on Friday to prolong their survival hopes.

July's reverse fixture finished 1-1, and with Amazonas and Paysandu joint-fifth in the Serie B 'Both Teams To Score' charts, with 53% of their league games ending with both sides on the scoresheet, I'm confident the hosts and visitors notch at least once here.
