Football Accumulator Tips: 22/1 for Wednesday acca

Wednesday night sees a whole host of European action flood our screens, as well as the three remaining fixtures in the EFL Championship.

Sheffield United (A) to beat Southampton (19:45) @ 15/8

Sheffield United suffered a blow last time out as they were reduced to nine men and beaten 1-0 by Charlton Athletic, to halt their charge towards the play-offs. Chris Wilder was satisfied with the second-half performance but will want to get back to winning ways as they travel south. 

Southampton have been in dismal form under Tonda Eckert, and they are winless in their last seven league games. The Blades should be too strong for them on current form. 

Watford (H) to beat Portsmouth (19:45) @ 8/11

Portsmouth got a vital away win at Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend, but it wasn’t convincing, and I think they will be in for a long night as they travel to Vicarage Road. Watford were well-beaten by Millwall to end their winning streak, but Javi Gracia’s men will hope to bounce back here - and their individual quality should shine through. 

Watford rank third for home form this season, Portsmouth rank 20th for away form. I fully expect that pattern to continue on Wednesday night with a home win. 

Forest Green Rovers (H) to beat Altrincham (19:45) @ 2/5 

Dropping down to the National League now and Robbie Savage’s Forest Green Rovers host an out-of-sorts Altrincham outfit, looking to strengthen their promotion bid. FGR have only won one of their last four league games, but they are unbeaten in their last four in all competitions. 

They need to get a wriggle on if they want to secure automatic promotion, and they have to beat an Alty side that have lost six on the bounce and have slid down to 19th.

Marseille vs Liverpool - Over 2.5 goals (20:00) @ 8/13

We should get goals in the Champions League meeting between Marseille and Liverpool on Wednesday night. Arne Slot’s men have been hit and miss of late, but over 2.5 goals has landed in four of their last seven in all competitions. 

I think their defence isn’t trustworthy, but they still have quality in the final third, and Marseille are a perfect spring partner if we are looking for goals. Eleven of their 18 Ligue 1 games have ended with three goals or more, but recently, there have been even more goals in their matches. They won 5-2 at the weekend and 9-0 in the cup before that, while in the Trophee des Champions final against PSG, the game ended 2-2 before they lost on penalties. 

I’m hoping that openness will continue and the goals will flow. 

Atalanta (H) to beat Athletic Club (20:00) @ 4/5 

Atalanta have impressed in Europe this term, and sit fifth in the Champions League group phase table. They will be desperate to secure a top-eight finish and automatic qualification to the round of 16, and they host an Athletic Club outfit that sit 28th and are at risk of elimination. 

The Spaniards have picked up just six points from six games, while Atalanta have 13, having won their last three on the bounce. I am feeling a home win in this one, to bring our acca to 22/1.
