Thursday football, or as I have named it, the day of the continental cups. With games from the Copa del Rey, Coupe de France, Coppa Italia, Turkish Cup and Belgian Cup all taking place on the same night, Thursday’s Football Accumulator Tips has a high stakes feel to it.

You can check out this European tour down below - with a bit of EFL action thrown in there so we don’t get too carried away on our jollies.

Real Betis (H) to win the tie vs Atletico Madrid @ 6/5

Let’s start in Spain with a bit of an upset. Real Betis host Atletico Madrid in the quarter-final of the Copa del Rey, and I think they could knock Diego Simeone’s men out of the cup competiiton. For these first two selections, I’ve backed a team to win the tie - which means they don’t have to get the job done in 90 minutes.

Instead, a win in extra-time or via penalties will still see this selection settled as a winner, and I think we are getting a decent price on the hosts. Betis have won their last five home games on the bounce since that enthralling 5-3 defeat at the hands of Barcelona at the start of December. Meanwhile, Atleti lost to Bodo/Glimt and then failed to beat a Levante side that sit 19th in La Liga. I think momentum and home form gives Betis the edge.

Juventus (A) to win the tie vs Atalanta @ 5/6

Over to Italy now, where Juventus face Atalanta on the road in what looks to be a well-matched quarter-final. Atalanta sit seventh in Serie A, with Juve up in fourth, but the hosts are unbeaten in six in the league. However, they have disappointed in the Champions League, with recent back-to-back defeats against Athletic Club and Union Saint Gilloise costing them a place in the top eight.

Juve will also contest the UCL play-offs after finishing 13th, and they have only lost one of their last 12 games in all competitions. I think Luciano Spalletti’s men will have what it takes to edge what should be a tight encounter on the road - so I’ll back them to win the tie against Atalanta - by any means neccesary.

Besiktas (A) to beat Kocaelispor @ 8/11

You didn’t think we’d forget about the Turkish Cup did you? Besiktas, now managed by Sergen Yelcin, had a slow start to this campaign and as a result sit fifth in the Super Lig. However, they have improved of late and now find themselves on an unbeaten run stretching back 11 games in all competiitions.

They travel to face a Kocaelispor outfit that sit ninth in the top flight, but have lost three and drawn one of their last four outings. Given they’ve scored just one goal during this time as well, I feel confident in backing the away side to get the job done in 90 minutes.

Strasbourg vs Monaco - Draw @ 11/5

Like Franck Ribery in 2005, we are moving from Turkey to France for this Coupe de France clash. Two decent teams meet as seventh-placed Strasbourg, now with Gary O’Neil in charge after the departure of Liam Rosenior, host Monaco.

I think this has all the making of a tense affair, and we saw just how stubborn Monaco can be as they drew 0-0 with Juventus in the Champions League. They’ve kept three clean sheets in a row since getting battered by Real Madrid - and this is just a hunch - but I see these two needing extra-time and potentially penalties to separate them.

Salford City (A) to beat Accrington Stanley @ 23/20

Like the sad end of a skiing holiday, we go from Strasbourg to the north of England. Unlike the flight though, you won’t spend two hours cramped in on RyanAir as you spend your last two euros on scratchcards. Accrington Stanley, who have won their last two games but sit 13th in League 2, host Salford City, who are up in third and have won five out of their last six.

Salford have won four in a row on the road, and their quality should prove to be too much for Accy to handle on the night.
