Ethan Ampadu (Brighton vs Leeds, Sat 15:00) @ 2/1

Leeds United captain Ethan Ampadu received 10 yellows in 49 EFL Championship appearances in his debut campaign for the Whites in 2023/24, seven in 29 second-tier outings the following season, and has already been booked twice in seven Premier League games this term.

The 25-year-old played mainly as a centre-back in the Championship, but has been deployed in a more natural midfield role this season, where his combative nature comes to the fore.

Ampadu is averaging 1.6 fouls per game in the top flight, committing at least one foul in six of his seven matches. Last Friday, in a 2-1 victory over West Ham United, he conceded three free-kicks, but managed to escape Elland Road without a booking.

Football Odds

On Saturday, the Wales international is likely to be tasked with keeping his former teammate, Georginio Rutter, quiet.

Rutter averaged 1.6 fouls won per game in last season's Premier League, despite nine of his 28 appearances coming from the bench, and he's averaging 1.1 fouls won per game in the competition this term (eight games, six starts).

The 23-year-old started Brighton & Hove Albion's Carabao Cup defeat at Arsenal (2-0) on Wednesday and was fouled twice in his 67 minutes on the field.

I can see the Frenchman posing a few problems for his former club at the Amex Stadium this weekend, and Ampadu may be forced to take alternative action to deal with the threat of the No.10.

Alejandro Jimenez (Man City vs Bournemouth, Sun 16:30) @ 5/2

Premier League high-fliers AFC Bournemouth take a trip to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday to take on a Manchester City side that sit two points below them after the first nine games.

The Cherries are unbeaten since losing 4-2 at reigning champions Liverpool on the opening night of the campaign on August 15, and last time out in the competition, they dispatched Nottingham Forest 2-0 at Vitality Stadium.

Spanish 20-year-old Alejandro Jimenez, on loan from AC Milan, started at right-back against Forest, making his sixth Premier League appearance and fourth start.

Premier League Odds

Despite limited minutes, Jimenez has already received three yellow cards for the South Coast club, with his latest coming in a 2-2 draw away to Leeds on September 27.

The Spain U21 international was a regular in referee notebooks in Italy last season as he was issued six yellows in 22 Serie A outings for Milan, as well as seven yellows and one red for their U23 team in Serie C, Girone B. He played once for the first team this term and was booked in that game, a 2-1 home defeat to Cremonese, despite only coming on at half-time and not making a foul (his yellow was for dissent).

At the Etihad this weekend, Jimenez could be marking Man City winger Jeremy Doku, who is averaging 1.6 fouls won per game in this season's Premier League - he was taken down twice in last Sunday's 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa - and three per game in the Uefa Champions League.

Nordi Mukiele (Sunderland vs Everton, Mon 20:00) @ 9/2

Jack Grealish (28) is the Premier League's most fouled player this season, averaging 3.5 fouls won per game, and in Europe's top five leagues, only Eibar's Aleix Febas (33) has been taken down more times than the Englishman, who has drawn a yellow-card challenge in four of his last six appearances across all competitions.

Therefore, it always feels like a sensible selection to back whoever is marking him next, to pick up a card.

That job could fall on Monday to Sunderland's Nordi Mukiele, who was deployed on the right-hand side of a back three at Stamford Bridge last Saturday as the Black Cats beat Chelsea 2-1.

However, the Frenchman has also been used as a traditional right-back, in a 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on October 18.

Today's Football Fixtures

The 27-year-old hasn't been booked yet for Regis Le Bris' side, but he's committed three fouls across his last two Premier League home games, and in last season's Bundesliga, was shown four yellows in 15 appearances (10 starts). If he starts at right-back, right wing-back, or as a right-sided centre-back at the Stadium of Light on Monday, he could make a few fouls on Grealish, who is well-versed in deceiving opponents and, sometimes, referees.
