We take a break from the Scottish Premiership for the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup at Hampden as Aberdeen play Celtic for a spot in the final.

It has been a good week for Celtic without having kicked a ball in their hope of winning the SPL but can they take one big step towards the double? Betfred’s Frank Monkhouse previews the action and makes his Aberdeen vs Celtic predictions for us at Betfred Insights...

Aberdeen vs Celtic Betting Tips

  • Over 3.5 goals @ 6/4
  • Celtic win and both score @ 15/8

The first of this weekend’s Scottish Cup semi-finals comes from Hampden Park on Saturday when Aberdeen plays Celtic for a place in the final at 12:30 GMT. The current champions are favourites at Betfred to win this game and go on to regain the trophy, but Aberdeen is improving quickly. We take nothing for granted in the Scottish Cup, especially at this late stage, with just two games standing between these teams and the trophy.

Aberdeen impressed in the previous round when upsetting the odds to eliminate Kilmarnock in the quarter-finals with a 3-1 scoreline. Celtic progressed to the last four with an eye-catching 4-2 win over Premiership bottom club Livingston. Will the Dons keep their dreams alive, or will we see Celtic win and set up a grandstand finish to the season? Fans can’t wait to find out, and Betfred traders offer a long list of pre-match betting markets.

Aberdeen vs Celtic Odds

Both teams impressed on their run to the semi-finals, but we’ll lose one side before Rangers play Hearts at the same venue on Sunday. Aberdeen hasn’t enjoyed a great season in the Premiership by their high standards, and they’ll finish in the bottom six.

The Dons still have the threat of relegation hanging over them and are five points better than the drop zone after 33 games. But they seem to keep their best efforts for knockout football. They reached the final of the League Cup late last year, losing 1-0 to Rangers at Hampden.

Celtic won the treble under former manager Ange Postecoglou last season but lost it at the first opportunity when going out of the League Cup early.

A slight wobble in the Premiership also allowed Rangers back into the title race, but the Bhoys appear to have found their feet. They arrive in great form, enjoy a three-point advantage at the top of the Premiership, and have a real chance of winning the Scottish Cup. They’re 1/4 favourites to win the game, with Aberdeen trading at 8/1 and the draw 4/1.

Over 3.5 goals @ 6/4

Tensions will be running high at the national stadium, but we expect goals after these sides served up some recent classics. Saturday’s game will be the fourth time the Dons and Bhoys have met this season, and they’ve already scored a combined 12 goals.

That includes a stunning 6-0 win for Celtic in Glasgow and a 3-1 at Pittodrie. Those in attendance and armchair fans watching the action live on television hope this renewal lives up to the hype and gives up a few more goals. We’re confident they’ll get their wish.

Celtic should win this game and progress to the final, but there’s no reason to back them in the match-winner market at the price, unless you’re a big-hitter happy to ramp up your stake.

For the rest of us, we must get creative when searching for value. Back this game producing more than three goals at a handy 6/4. The same bet would’ve landed you a profit in four of the last five meetings, and that’s strong enough for us.

Celtic win and both score @ 15/8

Aiming for slightly better odds to boost your weekend accumulators or back as a super single, we take a pop at both teams to score in a Celtic win at 15/8. Celtic enjoy a fantastic record against the Dons and are unbeaten against the team from the Granite City this season. Brendan Rodgers enjoys an aggregate 10-2 advantage, and that’s difficult to ignore when making predictions.

Will Saturday’s game follow the trends and produce another solid win for the Hoops? That’s the most likely outcome, but we fancy Aberdeen getting on the scoresheet and giving their fans something to cheer at the end of a credible Scottish Cup challenge. Back both teams to score and Celtic to win to help keep things interesting.
