Oscar Piastri took a huge step towards the Drivers’ Championship title at the weekend as he took the race win, and his teammate Lando Norris suffered an engine failure when in pursuit of the eventual winner.

It means the gap now stands at 34 points, which represents a healthy cushion for the Australian. Next, we head to Monza and below you can find my Italian Grand Prix predictions.

Oscar Piastri to win @ 6/5

Now there is no doubt that Norris would have got close to Piastri in Zaanvoodt has his engine not gone up in smoke, but I still think the Aussie has enough pace to secure the race win.

It might seem pretty boring to pick out another McLaren win, but the stats speak for themselves. They'd recorded four one-two finishes on the trot before last weekend, and the duo would have made it five from five had it not been for that mechanical issue for the Brit.

Ultimately then, it's a flip of a coin between the two, but the consistency we have seen from Piastri outweighs what we have seen from Lando. Time and time again, his slow starts off the line have cost him - and he was on pole here last year but failed to convert that into a race win. Now under even more pressure to close the gap, it will be interesting to see how he responds, but I'm going back Piastri to extend his lead in Monza.

Charles Leclerc podium finish @ 6/5

Now all the attention was on Isack Hadjar last weekend as he secured his first podium finish in Formula One at the age of 20. He's been wonderful to watch in his rookie season and RB look like they have a very special driver on their books.

However, we have to say he was slightly fortunate last weekend as both Ferraris and then Norris registered DNFs, and I cannot see that happening again in Monza, even though I’m a big fan of Hadjar.

Instead, I am going to back one of the Ferraris to bounce back in style. This is Ferrari’s home race of course, and I was seriously impressed with the improvement we saw after the summer break in 2024 from the Prancing Horse. In fact, Charles Leclerc was the top points scorer in the second half of last season, but Ferrari are yet to win a race this year and had a disaster at the Dutch Grand Prix.

Now just 12 points ahead of Mercedes, Ferrari need to turn the dial up as we get stuck into the second half of the season. I’m going to back Leclerc to get the job done and bag another podium finish at the place where he took a spectacular win in 2024.
