What is Heinz Betting in Horse Racing?

Horse racing offers a multitude of interesting and unique ways to bet given its nature as a sport. Racing is frequent, with events taking place all over the country and indeed the world at almost all times. The sport is also card-based, meaning each meeting will feature multiple races. This opens up far more possibilities for betting.
One of those is the Heinz bet. These wagers have 57 elements, taking their name from Heinz condiments and their ‘57 Varieties’ slogan. So read on and allow Betfred Education to take you to the sauce…sorry, the source of what makes a Heinz bet tick.
A Heinz bet requires the punter to make six selections which are then placed across the following bets:
15 doubles
20 trebles
15 four-folds accumulators
6 five-fold accumulators
1 six-fold accumulator
There are no singles in a Heinz bet. The attraction for the punter is the potential for high returns.
The number of selections that need to be successful in order to guarantee a return is two, as there are no singles as stated above.
With 57 bets built-in to our Heinz, your bet will cost 57 times whatever YOU decide is your unit stake. A 50p Heinz? 57 x 50p, gives us a total stake of £28.50. A 10p Heinz? £5.70. The number of winners you manage to select will of course determine exactly what your return will be. How many of those doubles, trebles, four-folds etc you've managed to land IF you've played a blinder and had plenty of joy among your six selections. Then it's a matter of settling the bet dependent upon the odds of the individual winners.
Heinz bets are attractive because they are a good way of engaging with a full day’s racing, or multiple cards, with your bet still active even if some of your selections lose.
You can also make an Each-Way Heinz bet, which would mean a total of 114 bets were placed. 57 would be for the horses to win and 57 would be for them to place.
While most popular in horse racing, Heinz bets can be made on a number of sports. Adjacent sports like greyhound racing and other multi-fixture events like football can also be wagered on using a Heinz bet.
You can work out your potential winnings before placing any bets by using our Heinz Bet Calculator.
