What is Dash Greyhounds Betting?

Greyhounds racing is one of the most popular sports for customers to bet on here at Betfred, with a whole host of races available from various meetings up and down the UK on a daily basis. However, there is an alternative method of betting on greyhounds - virtually.
Like you can get with horse racing, Betfred provides virtual greyhounds races - Dash Greyhounds, with races frequent throughout the day at around every two minutes. For those of you new to gambling or virtual gambling, we at Betfred Insights have put together this explainer to give you a clear idea of what Dash Greyhounds is.
What is Dash Greyhounds?
As mentioned above, Dash Greyhounds is a virtual version of traditional greyhounds racing. It looks similar to the real deal but the races are all made by computer generated imagery, which is accessed by a consistent stream on the virtual sports tab on betfred.com.
Like you would get with traditional greyhound meetings, you have the times of races clearly signposted and beneath them are six runners (dogs) for that particular race.
On screen you will see a countdown timer which gives you enough notice to place your bets before the markets suspend before the race gets underway on the stream. Not long after the race is finished the results will pop up, and then you can start looking ahead to the next race, where the countdown will commence again.
How do the results work?
The results for the races are designed by a computer algorithm in which the outcomes are weighted (similar to traditional greyhounds racing) but the result is decided by a regulated random number generator which delivers unpredictability. This ensures there is no bias.
What markets can I bet on?
- Straight bets - This is where you simply select a dog to win and is ideal for beginners.
- Each-way bets - This is a form of insurance betting. You essentially have two bets on - for the dog to win and for the dog to place. You will receive a quarter of the odds if your dog finishes second.
- Forecast - This is where you pick two dogs to either finish in first and second or in any order.
- Tricast - This is where you pick three dogs to either finish in first, second and third, or in any order.
- Accumulator - Putting multiple selections in the same bet from different races to increase the odds.
Advantages
- Offers you something to bet on if there are no real world events available at the time.
- Races are frequent, presenting less waiting times than traditional greyhounds racing.
- No knowledge required as there is no form guide or anything to rely on, meaning anyone can jump straight in here (ideal for beginners).
- No bias due to the computer algorithm determining the results randomly.
Disadvantages
- Frequent races means more chances of people continuing to bet and chase losses. Knowing when to stop and setting limits is sensible with Dash Greyhounds.
- The lack of stats and form guide may not appeal to the players who like the research and analysis that comes with traditional greyhounds racing.
