The state of play
Batting first in the opener on Friday evening, West Indies posted 280, built on three half-centuries from Evin Lewis (60), Shai Hope (55), and Roston Chase (53).
After overcoming an early wicket, Lewis and Keacy Carty established a solid powerplay platform. However, Pakistan's spin trio of Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, and Sufiyan Muqim stifled the run rate through the middle overs. Lewis fell trying to accelerate, while Sherfane Rutherford struggled to get going.
Chase and Hope's 64-run partnership steadied the innings, but once lost, West Indies' tail was quickly dismantled by reverse swing from Shaheen Shah Afridi (4/51) and Naseem Shah (3/55), and they were bowled out with an over unused.
Pakistan's chase wavered after typically slow and steady contributions from Babar Azam (47) and Mohammad Rizwan (53). At 101 still needed, debutant Hasan Nawaz (63) and Hussain Talat (41) rescued the innings with an unbeaten 104-run partnership. They overcame early pressure and dropped catches, capitalising in the death overs to secure a five-wicket win with seven balls remaining and a 1-0 series lead.
Pitch & Conditions
Tarouba's Brian Lara Cricket Academy surface looked a balanced wicket early on, with decent pace and carry, before slowing to favour spin and accuracy later in the innings. Weather forecasts suggest a dry evening.

Key odds
The West Indies have been edged out to 13/8 after defeat in the opener, with Pakistan now rated a 1/2 shot. We're getting into backable territory here for the hosts given the undoubted talent on show, but the collapse in the first game means it's a no-bet here just yet.
Hope is favourite to top score for the Windies at 5/2, with Keacy Carty and Brandon King at 4/1. Chase catches the eye at a chunky looking 10/1 off the back of his half-century in the opener.
The old stalwarts, Azam and Rizwan, top the market for the visitors at 13/5 and 14/5 respectively, with opener Saim Ayub edged out to 9/2 after scoring just six in the first match.

Best Bets
We went with Ayub in the first ODI to top score and he failed to deliver but he remains a class act and his runs line looks too short at 27.5. Rizwan returned to the white-ball line up with a hard-earned half-century and, while the debate continues on whether he and Babar score quickly enough, we will also take him to beat his runs line of 31.5. Slow and steady is absolutely fine for this market.
