MI London move into a new era

MI London enter the new season with much of the Oval Invincibles core that delivered last year's title still intact, including new skipper Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Jason Roy, Rashid Khan, Tom Curran and the underrated Nathan Sowter.

New additions include Nicholas Pooran, James Vince and Trent Boult - all astute signings on the face of it - but the departure of the excellent captain/coach duo of Sam Billings and Tom Moody will no doubt have an impact on the side. West Indies icon Kieron Pollard is the new coach.

SunRisers Leeds to provide excitement

SunRisers Leeds have assembled an exciting squad around England white-ball captain Harry Brook and skipper Zak Crawley, with Mitchell Marsh, Ryan Rickelton, Dan Lawrence, Nathan Ellis, Matt Potts, Brydon Carse and Pakistan leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed among the headline names.

Brook and Crawley provide attacking threat at the top of the order, while Marsh adds genuine all-round quality. Ellis, Potts and Carse give SunRisers a variety of pace options, while Ahmed’s leg spin gives the bowling unit an extra dimension and he should go well in the tournament.

Predicted line-ups

MI London: Will Jacks, James Vince, Nicholas Pooran, Sherfane Rutherford, Sam Curran (c), Tom Curran, Rashid Khan, Richard Gleeson, Trent Boult, Olly Stone, Nathan Sowter

SunRisers Leeds: Mitchell Marsh, Ryan Rickelton, Zak Crawley (c) , Harry Brook, Dan Lawrence, Matty Revis, Ed Barnard, Benny Howell, Brydon Carse, Nathan Ellis, Abrar Ahmed

Pitch & conditions

The Oval has offered one of the more balanced T20 surfaces in this season's Vitality Blast. Across all six of Surrey's South Group home fixtures, first-innings scores have ranged from 116 to 213, averaging around 170, while there has been little evidence of a strong toss bias.  The weather looks set fair, with no rain expected and temperatures remaining above 20c.

Key odds

The hosts are expected to maintain Oval Invincibles form here and have been priced up accordingly at 8/11 but the absence of the Moody/Billings axis raises enough question marks and that looks short enough. The SunRisers have enough batting firepower to blow anyone away and will have plenty of support at 11/10.

Jacks was one of the standout performers in last year’s competition, finishing fourth in the men's Hundred run charts with 275 runs at an average of 39.28 and a strike rate of 154.49 and he sits near the top batter market for MI London at 3/1.

Opening pair Rickelton (11/4) and Marsh (10/3) are leading favourites for SunRisers, with Brook - who scored 56 off 27 against Oval last season at Headingley -  a 7/2 chance.

(Price Boost) SunRisers to win and both teams to score 140+ runs 14/5 16/5

The Oval Invincibles have very much lived up to their name in recent campaigns, but the changes in key areas have thrown open the door for the challengers and I think the hosts are worth taking on in this opener.

I wouldn’t put anyone off the 11/10 on the straight match odds but the kind Betfred traders have thrown together a nice price boost for this one: SunRisers to win and both teams to score 140+. The average score at the Oval in last year’s edition was over 180 and with the batting firepower on both sides, we could be in for a runfest.
