The West Indies and South Africa face off in a T20 World Cup game which will see the winner progress to the semi-finals.

The hosts bounced back from defeat to England with an easy success over the United States but with Jos Buttler’s side facing the US next, a win here is needed for Rovman Powell’s team to progress.

The Proteas have won both of their Super 8 games so far but cannot afford to take their foot off the gas with their net run rate leaving them little room for manoeuvre. Below you can find my West Indies vs South Africa prediction.

West Indies vs South Africa Betting Tips

  • West Indies to win @ 5/6
  • Nicholas Pooran top West Indies run scorer @ 11/4

Team news

Akeal Hosein has impressed for West Indies with the new ball and is likely to retain that role. In fact the hosts may remain unchanged from the team that were comfortable winners over the United States last time out.

South Africa opted for just one spinner against England in their last game, dropping Tabraiz Shamsi in favour of Ottneil Baartman, but they may choose to revert to the left-arm wrist slow bowler for this one.

West Indies vs South Africa Odds

West Indies are narrow 5/6 favourites to get the victory in this clash, with South Africa priced up at 20/21 in what looks set to be a competitive affair.

Nicholas Pooran is the 11/4 favourite to be the West Indies top run scorer, while Quinton de Kock is the 13/5 favourite to be the top run scorer for South Africa.

West Indies to win @ 5/6

South Africa are just one of the two teams alongside India to have won all of their games at this year’s T20 World Cup, but they have had an easier run of fixtures than most and face a tough challenge in the shape of the West Indies.

The Windies have won five of the last six head-to-heads between the two, including a 3-0 whitewash in the warm-up for this tournament and can edge a close affair.

South Africa have not quite been as good as their record suggests, they were pushed all the way by Nepal and took 15 overs to get to a total of 80 against Sri Lanka.

The West Indies are a significant step up on that level of form and the home team are fancied to secure passage to the semi-finals with a win.

West Indies 5:6

Nicholas Pooran top West Indies run scorer @ 11/4

Nicholas Pooran has been a shining light for the West Indies in this tournament, he has 227 runs at an average of 45.40 and a strike rate of 148.

At the time of writing only one player has made more runs in the tournament and, while he played second fiddle to a brilliant Shai Hope innings against the United States, he is fancied to be the main man here.
