It’s the West Indies v New Zealand on Thursday, June 13 (01:30, Sky Sports Cricket) in Tarouba in a match that could have a huge bearing on who goes through.

James Pacheco thinks the Kiwis can bounce back at 5/4 while that man Trent Boult could be the one doing the damage with the ball at a decent-looking 16/5 but he also has a 20/1 wildcard to throw into the mix as he takes us through his West Indies vs New Zealand T20 World Cup Predictions...

West Indies

The good news is the co-hosts are sitting pretty with two wins from two. The bad news is those wins were against PNG and Uganda and that it’s only going to get harder from here. This one is going to be no walk in the park and Afghanistan next up even less so.

So it’s a bit hard to assess just how good a team this is given the opposition they’ve played. Akeal Hossein was excellent last time out with 5/11 off four but again, that may not mean much against batsmen who are a bit out of their depth here.

It’s a bit of a worry that all oft top order made starts against Uganda without really kicking on because these are wickets where time at the crease is crucial before teeing off.

We’re waiting for Andre Russell to come to life at this tournament. Is this the match?

Possible XI: King, Charles, Pooran, Powell, Rutherford, Russell, Shepherd, Chase, Hosein, Joseph, Motie.

New Zealand

Theirs was a strangely out of character performance against Afghanistan.

It’s not that they lost that was so surprising; Afghanistan are an excellent team. It was more the manner of it that included poor fielding, undisciplined bowling at times and even a careless dismissal by Kane Williamson, which isn’t something you often hear.

Perhaps all that shouldn’t be surprising. Lots of these players were at the IPL but spent most of it warming the bench and they had little by the way of preparation going into the tournament.

But they’re a better side than that first match suggested and they’re not out of it yet. Tim Southee could come in for Mat Henry, who took two wickets but was expensive.

Possible XI: Allen, Conway, Willaimson, Mitchell, Phillips, Chapman, Bracewell, Santner, Southee, Ferguson, Boult.

Pitch and conditions

We’ve had plenty of low-scoring matches in New York and a couple of high-scoring ones elsewhere.

This one at Tarouba could be somewhere in between with around 150-155 par on a wicket where you can play shots but ever really feel like you’re in as a batter.

If the side bating first gets to 170, they’ll feel they’re more than halfway there to winning the match.

New Zealand are 5/4 and that’s a bet for us.

They can only improve on that first match and will be better for the run, albeit in a heavy defeat.

You get the feeling the Windies may be great one day and poor the next so the Black Caps’ tried and tested gameplans, fields and stalwarts may just win the day doing their thing.

New Zealand may have lost but they did so against one of the most impressive sides at the tournament and it may count against the Windies that they haven’t yet had to get out of second gear.

Not only are the Kiwis very reliable at World Cups but they’ve beaten the Windies in six of the last seven between the two and that simply can’t be ignored.

New Zealand Top Bowler

One man in the New Zealand side who certainly isn’t rusty is Trent Boult, who played every match for Rajasthan Royals at the IPL and was mostly pretty good.

That showed in the first game where he was the pick of the bowlers with 2-22 off four including dismissing the set batsman R Gurbaz who was on 80. As an added bonus Boult is likely to bowl at the death and though he’s the favourite, 16/5 is still attractive enough.

A word on Glenn Phillips. He didn’t bowl last time out but if he’s given an over here and bowls well, particularly if he takes a wicket, he could be given three or four because he’s very capable with his off spin on his day.

He may not bowl at all like we said but at 20/1 it’s worth risking a 1/4 of normal stakes that he comes good.
