England vs Nepal Preview & Team News:
England
England were pretty good in the Series just gone against Sri Lanka, winning all three and getting used to the sort of conditions they might find here in India, though those at the Wankhede first up may be quite different from those in Sri Lanka last week.
The only other slight problem about that Sri Lanka series is that SL aren't a great side, so England weren't tested as much as they could have been, with the exception of the final match.
England may have come across a winning formula in terms of their best XI in that Series: deep batting, lots of spin options.
Ben Duckett can consider himself a bit unlucky. He missed the Series through injury and Tom Banton was good in it, causing a reshuffle that saw Jos Buttler return to the top of the order. Then again, Duckett's T20I numbers aren't spectacular anyway.
The spin trio of Rashid, Dawson and Jacks and how they get on could be key to England's chances in this competition.
Nepal
This will be their third appearance at a T20 World Cup after doing so in 2014 and 2024. Last time out, they beat a good Netherlands side, so they're not just here to make up the numbers.
They have some decent spinners, and as often happens with sides lacking batting power and genuine pace with the ball, they've focused on good fielding to try to make up for their shortcomings in other areas.
Sandeep Lamichhane is their big-name player, of course, and is included after overcoming some serious legal issues over the past few years.
England vs Nepal T20 World Cup Predicted Lineups:
- England:Buttler, Salt, Bethell, Brook, Banton, S. Curran, Jacks, Dawson, Overton, Archer, Rashid
- Nepal: Kushal Bhurtel, Aasif Sheikh, Rohit Paudel, Dipendra Singh Airee, Sundeep Jora, Gulshan Jha, Basir Ahamad, Sompal Kami, Karan KC, Sandeep Lamichhane, Sher Malla
Pitch and conditions
We're at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, and we all know what that means: big runs.
If I were Harry Brook, I'd bat first because England needs some practice at that, but then again, his main concern is probably just to win the match and get those points on the board. In which case, chasing is the easiest way to go about things.
If England bat first, they'll aim for 220 or so.
Match Winner odds.
Not much to see here, folks. England are 1/100, Nepal 20/1.
A couple of other sides could be vulnerable to Nepal's army of spinners defending a total on a turning track, but not England, and certainly not at Mumbai; on we go.

England Top Batsman
This probably won't be the last time I'll say this during the World Cup but I think the time has come when Phil Salt should be the market favourite, not Jos Buttler.
Buttler is still a wonderful player, of course, maybe England's best ever in this format, but he's also 35 and maybe, just maybe, his best years are behind him.
Salt is at the prime of his career and has often out-batted him in the last couple of years. Given the others may not get much of a go if these two hang around together for 10-12 overs and it's a straight choice between the two; and I prefer Salt at 11/4 to Buller's 12/5.

England Top Bowler
It may have been lost on some that Will Jacks took three wickets in that 3rd T20I win against Sri Lanka. As it happens, he didn't actually win the betting heat because Jacob Bethell took four!
But Jacks is a considerably better bowler in general than Bethell and may get a decent go in terms of being given, maybe, three overs.
Of course, he may not, and of course, the likes of Adil Rashid and Jofra Archer are better bowlers than him. But then again, Jacks is 7/1 and if he's involved in a dead-heat (even a three-way one), that could spell decent profit.
